Make your inner child comfortable and don’t forget about it.
A soulful film with a deep, but such an urgent thought - do not let time and the surrounding environment force out of your soul the very child who serenely rejoices in every second spent in this world that has not yet lost its purity for him. The cast did a great job. Tom Hanks took on the role of a 13-year-old with all his passion, demonstrating the projection of children’s worldview on the adult world. Jared Rushton (who played a friend of the main character) decently demonstrated his talent, not inferior to Tom Hanks with his game (at a discount on age and experience). Elizabeth Perkins was able to emotionally show the joy and warm feelings that a grown-up person experiences when contacting memories from childhood. I recommend watching the movie. Adults will have something to think about.
General impression: Who among you did not dream of growing up as a child? It's a funny thing, because back then, as a child, it seemed that all problems would be solved instantly if you became an adult. But when we become big, we tend to be children. Oh, those lovely carefree days. Who knew that the phrase “Do not hurry to grow up” has many nuances!
The hero of the picture is a 12-year-old boy named Josh. Once in the amusement park, he makes a wish: to quickly become big! And magically, in the morning, Josh finds himself in the body of a 30-year-old man, this is himself, many years later. Unexpectedly, an adult child makes a dizzying career in the toy business. But nature takes its course. Being great is good, especially to achieve success, but you do not want to miss your childhood either. The question arises, how to get everything back to normal?
Of course, all attention is focused on a wonderful actor - Tom Hanks. Tom portrayed childlike spontaneity as an adult and certainly believes him. Considering his hero, you understand how quickly you can grow up, but still everything has its time!
Kind and easy movie, which will definitely brighten up your evening and give a charge of positive, because the situations in which the hero gets a smile. Growing up, of course, you need, but sometimes you need to wake up your inner child.

After all, I like early Tom Hanks. Perhaps even more so than the Hanks who won the Oscar 39 and went on to play serious guys in Spielberg and other directors’ dramas. Before becoming one of the most serious actors of his generation, Hanks appeared very often in great comedies in the style of ' Suburbs' and 'Turner & Hooch'. But for many movie lovers Hanks hailed from the 80s forever remained in the hearts of the film Penny Marshall & #39; Big & #39;.
Everything is very simple here, but this is the juice. The main character of the comedy is a young man, a simple schoolboy who wants to ride on the attraction and can be the girl of his dreams. All this is given to him completely impossible, until quite by chance Josh makes a wish to become big near the magic apparatus and suddenly everything comes true!
Discovering that he is no longer a schoolboy, but a man of 30 years old, Josh realizes that no one will believe him and goes to the city to build his adult life. The only problem is that his consciousness is still childish. How can I say that? Maybe it’s even for the best and will bring him fame and money. In general, we will keep silent about the rest so that you will be more interesting to watch later.
From the film breathes the now lost spirit of old cute comedies. 'Big' looks very fun, positive. He gives his audience a positive attitude and wants Josh to be your real friend. Tom Hanks is brilliant in this role, he really lit up the hearts of the audience with his enthusiasm, and, by the way, mine was no exception.
I also want to say that in one of the roles there was John Heard from ' Home Alone'. But he didn’t play as cute a daddy as Chris Columbus. But he's not a badass here either. I was very pleased to see the beloved actor in another story, not at all Christmas, so pay special attention to him.
'Big' is a wonderful representative of his time, one of the best films of the decade and definitely my favorite in the career of Tom Hanks of the period when he had not yet won the Oscar ' The mood after watching will go up necessarily.
Childhood, adolescence, youth, youth, maturity, old age... It is impossible to count how many literary, cinematographic and other works of art are devoted to the most different age periods of human life. As a child, we want to grow up, but as we grow up, we want to go back to childhood. This is an injustice that affects almost everyone, if not everyone. And one side of this injustice is devoted to the film “Big” directed by Penny Marshall.
13-year-old Josh Baskin ("David Moscoe") likes to spend time in the company of his friend Billy ("Jared Rushton"), play sports, play video games. Josh dreams of a girl and once gets the attention of her peers - she agrees to go on a date with him in an amusement park. But the ridiculous happens: due to his low height, he is not allowed to the most important attraction for a date. The event was over, the companion went to have fun with the taller guys. Josh understood his childish nothingness and wanted to be big. After making a wish for the slot machine, Josh woke up the next morning as a 30-year-old man. Yes, it has become big!
From this moment begins the adult life of big Josh (the magnificent Tom Hanks). Although physically a man, emotionally and socially he remains a child with many new challenges. His mother turns away from him, believing that he has kidnapped her son, he has nowhere to go, no suitable clothes, no one can help Josh. Only Billy's friend knows who he is. The power of childhood friendship overcomes all difficulties. Ironically, Billy is also a guide to the adult world. He helps Josh find a job and get a job at a toy company. Josh, without realizing it, is making a dizzying career. And all thanks to his real sincerity, childish naivety and kindness.
In Marshall’s picture, all these traits, most strongly manifested in childhood and adolescence, are contrasted with the gloomy unfriendly world of adults, the world of maturity, which is driven by envy, corporate intrigue in the person of the vice president of the company Paul (John Hurd) or self-interest in the person of the careerist Susan Lawrence (the wonderful Elizabeth Perkins). The purity and good-naturedness of the child conquers this dashing environment.
Light innocence becomes cautious wisdom, which bears fruit in its own way. For example, the elderly toy mogul McMillan (Robert Lodge) sees Josh’s childishness as the best market indicator, which is much more indicative of dry marketing reports of ossified managers. Ornate businesswoman Susan, fascinated by the authenticity of Josh, invisibly, as if by magic, replaces strict cold calculation with warm emotional sincere feelings, becoming his lover.
Although the film shows for the most part the influence of children on adults, there is also a reverse moment. The harsh environment eventually puts Josh in his place, and he gradually becomes the true Adult, Mr. Baskin with a lack of free time. Due to new responsibilities, Josh begins to forget his old responsibilities - to be a child, to be a good friend, to be a loving son.
All this leads to one very important but simple conclusion, which is further illustrated by the last scene. In the finale, Josh, addressing Susan, says that “I have a million reasons to leave, and only one, the only reason to stay”, and invites her to return to her childhood. Susan replies, “I’ve already come this way...I wouldn’t want to repeat it.” These two phrases reveal, perhaps, one of the most important, moral and philosophical aspects of the film: all stages of life are good, everything has its time. And being a kid is great, and being an adult is cool, too, to tell you the truth. This is understood by the main characters of the film, who remained in their age "places".
"Big" directed by Penny Marshall is not a naked fantastic comedy à la body-swap movies with a dramatic cliché about the exchange of bodies, but rather a sentimental lyrical parable about kindness, friendship, about how good it is to live, no matter how much you knock, flavored with excellent acting work and charm of the late 1980s.
12-year-old Josh thinks being an adult is cool, especially when a girl you like is walking around with a high school kid and you can't even ride the ride because you're not tall enough. Sad Josh finds a mysterious wish-fulfillment machine on the back of the fair and shares his disappointment from life with him. No wonder he wakes up in the morning in the body of a man.
I think it’s still one of the best movies, where the plot is a boy caught in the body of a grown man. Even the recent "Shazam!" didn't make it, despite the hype surrounding the film. Young Tom Hanks, who has already starred in several good films, including Ron Howard and Gary Marshall, plays just fine. So you see inside him an insecure, withdrawn and confused teenager who does not know what to do with the “luck” that has fallen and misses his family. And, most importantly, there are almost no stupid jokes that make you facepalm.

This film was recommended to me as a good family comedy. Yes, and Kinopoisk, I see, shimmering in green and attracts a lot of warm words about this film. As they say, nothing foreshadowed trouble.
After watching it, I felt terrible confusion. You can say, “Is everything okay with me?” Maybe I’m crazy after all? What are the options? Either I was crazy or everyone else. I used to think this was the first option. That's what I'm crazy about.
My friends, I didn’t like this movie at all! Absolutely! I only smiled a couple of times, and all the rest of the time I did was think that this story was put on the wrong genre. That a big, serious drama is appropriate here, but not a comedy.
I may have taken it too seriously, but I saw it through the prism of elementary psychology. If a boy were a grown man for a couple of hours or a day, it would certainly be fun. How about this for six months? Are you serious? I can’t imagine what a psychological trauma this is! Living in a shitty (sorry) hotel amid gunshots, prostitutes and drug addicts is probably scary not only for children. And the mother who was desperate, thinking her son had been kidnapped by a pedophile? Is it funny and fun?
But it would be fine if they didn't put a love line in here! That's ridiculous! That woman is his mother! Adult aunt, which in the mind of the child in principle can not be perceived as a sexual object, even despite the fact that this boy is in the body of an adult man. Come on, guys! He's 13 years old!!! He was just beginning to become interested in such a concept as breasts and beautifully, boyishly, fall in love with his peers, laughing quite childishly at the word "ass." And do you mean that this adult and overly experienced woman did not see or feel that a child was in front of her? Or at least: an innocent young man (he, jokingly, did not fully understand the question, answered the opposite).
Sex (first and too early) with a woman aunt, job, money, success – and he’s still a sweet boy, able to return to his former self?? Fire me! Everything that happens to us affects us and makes us who we are. Not growing up and not changing at all, as if nothing had happened? It doesn't happen. Only if you erase his memory.
How will he play with his red-haired friend, what will he expect from relationships with girls who need romance and going to the movies? How will he live out his youth? For me, this is a terrible tale about a lost childhood. Almost horror.
Plus, my imagination allowed me to imagine this development: the boy grows up and becomes a completely primitive adult. Absolutely average, gray and untalented (this is possible). And he understands that such heights he, in his present adult form, will not achieve. Because he's not a kid anymore. In the sense that he won’t reappear as the charming Tom Hanks (only outwardly), he’ll be a different person. One that this woman wouldn't pay attention to. Tragedy, isn't it? Reason for suicide. In general, the psyche of the guy - to hell with it.
The woman really impressed me, to be honest! I can't imagine what it would feel like to find out you molested a minor! And what did she feel? Nothing! Only a slight sadness from the fact that with the same person, only in the present body (so to speak, native), she will not be able to sleep. And he's nobody. Just a boy. If she had loved him, she would not have disappeared from his life. After all, they live in the same space.
According to the film, in order to become a successful person, you need to be a child in the shower. For real. Paradoxical! Is it just plausible?
The bottom line is this is not a children's movie. It is not a family thing.
I don't like to be ridiculed of innocence. The whole movie is built on that.
Be yourself, friends! It's good that it comes on time.
P.S. What prevents you from “hiring” children in toy factories and consulting them?
Once again, from the big screen, the viewer is reminded: “Take care of the child in yourself.” Don't forget him.
A cute, enjoyable and important concept that is unlikely to become obsolete anytime soon. In the case of this film, among other things, the viewer is told: "Do not be afraid and use it."
In opposition to the harsh world of adults, corporate wars and routine, the creators of the picture put Tom Hanks, casually and simply playing a child of 13 years. It is not worth waiting for the highest cinematography, but the film is made with diligence, especially this is striking on some cult plans and how the "physical" scenes between the characters are staged. They never look like something uneven and ashamed, choreographically everything is verified to the smallest detail.
The plot, unfortunately, did not come out so smoothly. Next to interesting finds, such as the bright fascination with the world of an adult child, there is an ending that pops up almost out of nowhere and leaves confusion in my head.

I don't know what made Marshall's masterpiece special? He didn't hurt me personally. For an hour and a half, I watched the curves of T. Hanks. I didn’t see anything else, even funny. What's the salt? The fact that biological age does not always correspond to psychological, and suddenly grown up boy will remain a child in the adult world? That is, just because you swung at two meters does not mean that your brain has increased?
An amateur movie. As a comedy - too vulgar, the drama too does not pull. But the idea of instant maturation could squeeze something very interesting and exciting. But the director decided to limit himself to jumping on trampolines.
Few would argue that there is no better time than childhood. Parents and others willingly pamper you with all sorts of toys, curiosities and other good gifts. You can sleep as long as you like. There is no shortage of time at all. You can do whatever you want, and the burden of care has not yet reached you. Truly glorious times, to return to which let the example of memories and allows this film director Penny Marshall.
There are very few female directors today, and truly worthy of them can be safely counted on the fingers of one hand. The director of this film, Penny Marshall, certainly occupies an honorable place among these very directors. An outstanding director who once again shot a very bright, kind, instructive and very shrill picture for viewers of absolutely all ages. At the same time, unwittingly awakening the child in the heart of even the most adult spectators.
We were all children and each of us eagerly aspired to grow up faster, to become big and serious. Get rid of the restrictions and prohibitions of our parents. Getting a job and “cutting” millions of dollars with almost nothing to do. But is this really how we all see it as adults? So throughout the film, we observe how being “hostage” to the body of an adult man, but being a child mentally and intelligently, the main character of the picture learns all the basics of adult life. What is naturally flavored with a decent number of jokes, ridiculous moments and other events brightening up the story throughout the screen action, as well as giving the realization that everything has its time and rush this hour in any case impossible.
The director of the film Penny Marshall has removed an amazing fairy tale that allows you to unwittingly realize one thing. The parents of each of us made every effort and care to raise us well-bred, kind, compassionate and just good people, but as we grow up, many of us not only lose this child in ourselves, but also unwittingly turn into bad adults. This film directed by Penny Marshall is veiled, but very subtly promotes one thing - do good, help people and be good people in general. At the same time, not forgetting that any thought is absolutely material and any dream can come true. You just need to really believe in it with all your heart and put all your efforts to realize it. Whether you are a child or a reasonable adult.
The main role of the film masterfully performed the main favorite of America Tom Hanks. Tom Hanks has always been a truly strong and talented actor, but it was here that he played one of the best roles in his already impressive career. He not only perfectly played the child in the body of an adult, but also along the way created the image of a really good person, who perhaps is and should be equal. Separately, I want to note Elizabeth Perkins, who perfectly conveyed the moment of a strong and sharp change in her character throughout the film. It is impossible not to mention such wonderful actors as Robert Lodge, John Hurd and many others who gladly pleased with their performance in this picture.

The big one is a very kind, bright, instructive and simply wonderful picture, which you willingly watch and review at least hundreds of times. Not just a film, but a nostalgic immersion in the distant childhood of each of us flavored with wonderful directing, a good story and a great game of Tom Hanks.
How often in childhood we heard from our elders that we should not rush to become an adult. Yet, despite all the instructions, each of us at least once, but dreamed of speeding up the natural course of time and feeling great. The hero of the film of the same name, about which the story will go, gets such a unique opportunity.
Josh Baskin is an ordinary child of the 80s who loves sports, comes up with various fun with his best friend and, of course, seeks the attention of girls. One evening, thanks to a combination of circumstances and not without a bit of a miracle, his fleeting dream of becoming big is embodied in reality. Now he has to learn from his own experience what it means to be an adult.
The film "Big" was shot in 1988, when the author of these lines was not in the world, but still the picture causes many sympathy and even delight. What's the secret to success? In my opinion, there are several components here: firstly, it is an atmosphere of genuine sincerity and positive naivety in everything that happens, which allows each of us to unwittingly remember our childhood, and secondly, it is, of course, a magnificent performance of actors. Of course, the first person to highlight will be Tom Hanks. He played, without exaggeration, brilliantly. Now it is even difficult to imagine who else could so vividly portray the character of the boy in the guise of an adult, and, as a result, the absolutely deserved Golden Globes, Saturn and the Oscar nomination. By the way, these are the very first awards of the great actor. I also liked Elizabeth Perkins as Susan. No matter what critics say, she managed to create two different images of her character - before meeting Josh and after. As a result, in the course of the picture, she transforms from a cold careerist into a sweet and charming young lady capable of sincere feelings. I want to mention the best friend of Josh Billy, played by Jared Rushton, as well as John Heard and Robert Lodge.
Director Penny Marshall can not boast of the impressive number of films she created, but nevertheless they have some kind of soulfulness, and “Big” is a vivid example of this. And the wonderful music of composer Howard Shore only adds depth and depth to what is happening.
A beautiful, kind and soulful film that takes us back for a couple of hours to the days when we dreamed of becoming big.
This character, especially in the first part of the film, is similar, however, yes, it is Forrest Gump.
The film is good, but given its genre, has long gone out of fashion. If it were filmed now, it would be aimed specifically at a modern audience, more spoiled, demanding spectacles.
You can watch, enjoy a nice story, good-natured and simple, but soon you realize that you are in a museum. It is beautiful here, but you would be glad to be not here now.
But it's good to have you at the museum. You will remember this trip.
You watch Big not for sensations, but for yourself. You'll be kind and sincere. You will be yourself, and it will be right.
Twelve-year-old Joe is not very happy with his life. And even though he has an understanding friend, a beloved sister and his own computer with an interesting game, there are not many things that give real, not fleeting pleasure: there is no freedom of choice, independence, the ability to decide for yourself what is important and what is not. It is not even allowed on a dizzying attraction, because it is too small!
The movie "Big" begins as an ordinary story for children and teenagers. Do not succumb to seeming simplicity: in front of the audience there is a whole whirlpool of events, partly fantastic, to some extent deep, but undoubtedly funny! And while the subject of body swapping or sudden changes in appearance now rises from film to film, this late-eighties movie looks groundbreaking and unorthodox.
Actors always play someone else, but it's one thing to play your peer, and it's another thing to play a little boy in an adult body. Tom Hanks perfectly coped with the task: he plays a child without unnecessary curves! Not for a second does the thought slip through your head, “What is this grown-up guy doing?” because he is not perceived by a grown-up guy. It is even surprising, because at the first shots (the very one where the boy barely wakes up looks at himself in the mirror with horror) Joe seems to be an adult, but the longer you watch the movie, the younger the protagonist seems. And all those eccentricities during boring meetings, playing with a childhood friend and embarrassment on a first date only confirm the idea that this is the same Joe as he appeared before us at the very beginning of the film, albeit in the performance of the “big” actor.
Yes, this family movie is really worth watching for kids to understand that you shouldn’t rush to “get big.” But it's even more interesting for adults to see ... the same idea as the kids. After all, real adults are bored: upset because of a small salary, although even for this amount you can buy a lot of toys and have a fun evening; throw all your problems on the interlocutor at the first meeting, although you can jump on a trampoline and forget about everything; for some reason you make numerous sales schedules, although it would be enough to answer the only question: “I would like to play this myself”?
And, while watching the adventures of the “adult boy”, life seems to also become simple, where all problems are easily solved, and it is quite easy to find happiness.
The outstanding dramatic actor Tom Hanks, who decorated with his presence more than a dozen piercing paintings, most of which are already quite rightly considered classics of world cinema, began his career with entertainment projects mainly comedy. In the period of the 80s, Hanks was noted for such wonderful paintings for a family audience as “Premestier”, where he had to confront the frightening unsociable neighbors to the accompaniment of light-weight horrors, and in “Turner and Hooch”, the actor tried on the image of a brave detective investigating the most dangerous crimes along with a dog-partner. But no matter how popular these films are, nothing can replace the popular love of Big, a soulful, extraordinary story that describes what can happen in the mind of a child who suddenly finds himself in the body of a grown man. It is noteworthy that when creating the film did not do without the hand of Spielberg, although the directly famous filmmaker did not take part in it. For the script of “the Big” was responsible for his sister Anne and Gary Ross, who subsequently shot the notorious “Pleasantville”. In the director’s chair of the film was Penny Marshall, one of the most influential female directors of the old school, able to direct the shooting of both cute comedies and powerful dramas (“Awakening”). However, this list of celebrities involved in the creation of the film does not end. To put the story of growing up Penny Marshall helped one of the best operators of his time, later retrained as directors, that is, Barry Sonnenfeld, who shot an excellent fantastic trilogy “Men in Black”, and the composer of the tape was Howard Shore, immortalized his name thanks to the imperishable “Lord of the Rings”. And all these outstanding personalities began a long glorious career path, working as a large friendly company, the result of which was a film, beloved by more than one generation of grateful viewers.
So, the plot of the film introduces us to the most ordinary thirteen-year-old schoolboy named Josh (Hanks). Like all peers, the hero is not averse to spend free time in the company of friends, play video games, and also dream of being noticed by a charming girl who prefers to communicate primarily with the most popular guys of the school, to whom Josh for certain reasons does not belong. Living in a family without a father, where all responsibility for well-being lies on the fragile shoulders of his mother, Josh could not rely on a car, and even on decent pocket money. And yet the boy did not even think to give up the goal, having achieved the desired - the dream girl agreed to go on a date with him. But there was no disappointment here: going to the amusement park, Josh did not think that he would not be missed on the roller coaster due to his low height. The stunned hero is forced to go home while his passion entertained with taller guys. There was no limit to Josh’s frustration, and in desperation he turned to Zoltor, a mechanical genie sharpened into a gaming machine. Asking him the opportunity to become an adult, the guy did not expect that desires tend to be fulfilled in the shortest possible time! In the morning, the boy wakes up in the body of a thirty-year-old man, shocking himself and his mother, who considered him a villain who cleaned the house. Josh has no choice but to run outside and find his place in a world that until recently seemed very different, much simpler and more understandable.
Contrary to expectations, the “Big” can hardly be called a tape with deep morals and moral teachings. Family comedies for the most part proclaim the simple but eternal values on which human society is built. The story of how a boy turned into a man overnight does not carry any special depth. Perhaps it was felt when viewed by the audience as a child, but when you look at it at a more mature age, you begin to understand that Penny Marshall created a charming entertaining picture from which you should not expect anything complicated. In the example of the main character, we see that any dreams can become a reality. And he is accompanied by just great luck. Having no documents or acquaintances other than his best friend, who took Josh’s transformation for granted, the hero was able to run through the career ladder of a large toy company in a matter of weeks, simultaneously winning the heart of an attractive lady with whom he had not just a warm relationship, but something more. Wherever Josh comes, all the doors open. It’s like the film tells us that it doesn’t matter what professional skills you have, what matters is what thoughts you take on. And even a staff villain performed by John Heard can not do anything with an unexpected competitor, because it is simply impossible to go against the head of the company and the employees conquered by the charm of Josh. "Big" does not for a minute try to seem a dramatic ambiguous work. The filmmakers believed that the mother’s experiences of the main character due to his disappearance should be cut out of the story, as it overly dramatizes the narrative, although it would look completely justified. At the same time, Josh himself is in no hurry to look for an opportunity to return to his former body, without experiencing obvious attachments to home, gradually joining the rhythm of adult life, becoming not just a leading manager, but a luminary of the entire gaming industry.
There is no other way to see “Big” than a comedy for the whole family. Of course, some scenes can still evoke strong feelings. Especially delicate seem the relationship of Josh with his passion, who considers the guy a real adult, not a boy, miraculously turned into a man. It is not easy to accept that the hero in such a young age can enter into an intimate relationship with a woman, albeit in the body of a self-sufficient Tom Hanks. When viewing a variety of questions arise, primarily relating to morality. But that’s exactly what Penny Marshall and the writers are to be thanked for, who weren’t afraid to raise complex themes in a really simple film. In contrast to the unrestrained childhood fun Josh becomes the love of an adult woman. Perhaps for the first time in her life, she found the only one with whom you can spend the rest of your life, throwing away all possible candidates. What a shock she will have to suffer when the truth is revealed! However, do not forget that in "Big" everything comes down to a cute joke and do not expect drama from the film. You can't take that away from sentimentalism. And even the most difficult moments in it are played out in a sweet, fervent way, so that none of the heroes was left with a broken heart.
In the end, I want to say that the “Big” is quite rightly considered a classic of family cinema. Only over the years, it becomes clear that the film does not have a special dramatic depth. I advise you to consider the tape as a benefit as always the incomparable Tom Hanks, who can turn into any hero in such a way that you will not feel fakes. Comedies with his participation are always amazing, and “Big” is no exception.

Being big is a responsibility. Serious. To say that you want to become older is easy, but to realize, accept, and adapt. Not everyone will be able to...
In the late 80s of the last century, in cinema it was fashionable to reduce the characters, increase, somehow modify, in short, use light fiction. Having come to the conclusion that it is interesting, exciting, new and exciting, the directors set about various projects. One of them was the movie "Big"...
"Big one." The boy turns into a man by the will of the dark forces. And without confusion, he begins to comprehend the wisdom of the adult world. Nice. Not surprisingly, the director’s chair was almost taken by Steven Spielberg himself.
But there was a woman in charge. Penny Marshall. A man for whom the movie was just the beginning. Pathways to the adult world. Just like her hero... Hmm. Funny things happen in this movie.
And the actors were not beginners (although at that time they were not big stars), and the script was helped by Spielberg’s younger sister, Anne Spielberg (nominated for this Oscar, by the way), and the comedy was not a comedy, but more a social drama. And the music then entertained us, or even made us think about what was happening (Howard Shore himself from the future “Lord of the Rings” tried). Strongly ...
And there was something to think about... The share of a simple-minded, naive teenager (from the suburbs of New York) fell so much that not every adult will pull ... Here and the criminal district, and life apart from parents, and fear living inside (the child is still), and the rush of work, money, promotion, first serious love, responsibility for it and for the future ...
There was a lot to think about...
By the way, I can dispel the myth created by some authors about sexual education and puberty. A teenager can get used to adulthood and understand what will follow a woman’s undressing. Another thing is that she will understand without words that he is not at all experienced (although this is, as they say, lucrative). But the very fact that this occurs in nature is unreasonable to exclude.
In general, a person can get used to everything, but adapt. It only takes time. I see no reason to believe that this could not have happened.
Any movie is always a movie, but how great it is when even something as simple as a weekly paycheck can make the viewer happy and cheerful, knowing that Josh Baskin (the protagonist of the film) naively does not understand that they can pay so much. And that's nice.
Josh Baskin... Well played by young Tom Hanks... The actor, taking at that time dispersal in his creative biography. An actor who got into the role. A person who causes a smile, sympathy, respect and close attention of the viewer. What a wonderful child he is! When he indulges, you want to scold him, when he tries - to praise, well, and when he achieves great success - to rejoice.
What a trampoline, that the search for ideas is a pleasure... One is entertaining, the other helps to earn the most entertainment. Funny ...
The film is soulful... And the cast was well selected. I think that without Spielberg here still did not do ... Anyway, I liked the actress who played the role of the girl of the grown-up Josh (actress Elizabeth Perkins). Interesting person. I felt something close and warm in her. It was obvious that the lady was confused in her life, so to speak, played. But a meeting with such an unusual guy as our Josh, shook her and put her on the path of the true. Not immediately, but I did.
The boy playing Billy, Josh’s best friend (Jared Rushton) was also delighted. In my opinion, such friends are a decoration not only of the film, but of the lives of teenagers (friends) in general. He is honest, open, emotional, cheerful, but at the same time, he can be more responsible, experienced and adapted to life than his companion. And this is a lot in such unusual situations.
I also liked the way the toys were shown. You know, some of them, like the big piano, are very much missing at fairs and places with lots of people. Or at least where the kids are playing. Learning music, developing your hearing, and jumping sports is not only not harmful, but also very useful. Such things should take note of the owners of such events and shops.
And also... You have to see yourself as you are. And don't rush events and time. Everything will come in its turn. This also applies to girls... Well, we... We should not forget to develop, work a little, but rest mentally. So that all the changes that will happen to our body, would not be the main thing in our lives. And that we would learn more to look at ourselves from the outside, and not to look annoyed in the mirror.
Hence the conclusion that the film is beautiful, soulful, not stupid and interesting. The plot is well twisted. The actors played so that they forced to think about their lives. Well, the fact of fiction once again proved that it was worth it to put it on the screen.
It remains only a little lament that the original ending was not preserved. It would be fun to see Josh's grown-up girlfriend as his new little classmate. But... That miracle was abandoned. Well. They know better. We believe that reality should be taken more seriously. Perhaps they are right...
To express a similar phrase, ending with a rude word, would be ugly in relation to the main character, because all children, especially the youngest age, dream of becoming “big”. But in this film, we will not talk about a five-year-old naughty, but about a teenager of the early puberty period. He also has problems with teachers, “ancestors” and complexes about the age at which everything is forbidden. “Prize” attraction in the park, “decorated” with the image of an unseemly face, will fulfill his cherished dream. By the way, this image could be made softer, because it is still a family comedy, not a mystical thriller. The youngest viewers can be frightened. Nevertheless, the film fulfilled its main task - it turned out to be a good family comedy, which can be safely put on a par with such films as Home Alone. In terms of the idea of the film, it can be compared with more “adult” comedies, such as “Freaky Friday” or “The Boy in the Girl”, the gift that the latter shines with frank jokes. “Big” also touches on the topic of sex, but does it more decency, due to the year of release.
Having read the only negative review of this film, I am ready to argue with the author, although the point of view is clear to me. The author claims that even in the body of a 30-year-old man, a 13-year-old is unable to have sex. To check, of course, it is impossible, whether this is real, but without mysticism it is clear that at this age some boys are already capable of it - remember the recent youth comedy "Daddy Dosvidos", where a teenager of the same age managed not just to have sexual intercourse, but even to conceive a child, and no supernatural forces were involved in this. But I was distracted by challenging the opinion of someone who didn't like the film. Even if this fact in “Big” was absolute nonsense, it would not change the fact that the film is simply funny, positive and instructive. It can be shown to children from the age of the protagonist of this comedy, or, as we usually do, from the age of 12.
Why is it funny? It is difficult to answer, because everyone has a different sense of humor. But the fact that the "Big" liked the vast majority, pleases. Why positive? The humor in the film is very kind; there is dramatic element, namely the experience of Josh's mother about the disappearance of her son; there is some semblance of the love line - it is underdeveloped, since the main character in the body of an adult man, but with the consciousness of a teenager, is not yet capable of serious feelings, but his girlfriend seems to be in love, and she does not realize that she is actually seducing a minor. Why instructive? Well, this is understandable - Josh was eager for adulthood, but eventually realized that he did not grow to the problems that surround the "big" - an example of children who after every comment from their parents shout "I want to be big!". As a result, we have an exemplary comedy , which has not lost its relevance for 27 years after its release.

The Big One is definitely one of my favorite childhood movies. I remember when I was still a little girl watching this film many, many times on TV, because it is kind and fairy tale, and then I really liked various magical stories, and I completely sincerely believed in them and thought that they were absolutely real.
Josh's story is amazing. Initially, everything as usual, the little boy dreamed of becoming an adult and did not notice all the advantages of childhood, and now he gets this opportunity. The beauty is that already becoming an adult and having been at different ages, he understands that at each age there are advantages and each is good in its own way, and life is one and it is wonderful to go through all its stages.
Thank you very much to Tom Hanks for his wonderful role. My acquaintance with Tom started with this movie and yes, we are still together. A very talented actor, what few.
The film is memorable, kind, bright and a little fabulous.
Friends! Rejoice and meet with a smile every day, appreciate what you have. There is no bad age, there is a bad mood.
As we know, before becoming a universally known dramatic actor, delighting us from film to film, at the dawn of his career, the actor acted for the most part, it is in the films of the comedy genre of different quality levels. If I didn’t really like “Bachelor Party” and I’m unlikely to review it, then this film is a completely different situation. By the time of writing this review, I have probably reviewed this tape 7 times and it will make me laugh every time without any annoyance.
Perhaps because of the nostalgia and the modern generation of viewers who will now watch it for the first time, it will seem far from as funny as I do. But I still insist that this picture is outstanding. It has an incomparable atmosphere of a fairy tale, some adventure, which is so lacking in modern children's films. I'm not a snob, but... seriously, modern children's cinema is mired in self-copying and even moralize the young viewer is normally unable. Another thing is this tape, where even the ending has some admixture of drama, as we reveal in detail what difficulties a child may face, finally growing up.
The film is good and really memorable. Very much I was imbued with the apartment of the main character, full of various toys and stands, and the dating scene, where a callous lady, mired in her own affairs, suddenly opens up the opportunity to just fool around and be a stupid girl again - touching and emotionality just goes off scale.
Tom Hanks and Elizabeth Perkins formed an excellent duo, complementing each other, creating the necessary chemistry for the screen. Very funny turned out and "John Hurd" in his secondary role as a selfish colleague of the protagonist, who will stop at nothing for the sake of his goal.
The Big is an extremely touching and fascinating comedy about a little boy who wanted to become big. I am well aware that now this tape is unlikely to appeal to teenagers, but still I think it is worth mentioning once again as one of the favorite paintings of my childhood. Thank you, Mr. Hanks for a happy movie childhood!

I saw this movie for the first time in my childhood. It was so long ago that I didn’t even understand it. Many years have passed and Tom Hanks has become my favorite actor. For this film, he received the first Golden Globe, the first Oscar nomination and the only (hopefully for now) Saturn award, although it does not mean as much as the previous two.
Plot. They say, “Be afraid of your desires.” So 13-year-old Josh Baskin had a dream: to quickly grow up and win the attention of the neighbor’s girl Cynthia, who, like most girls at her age, preferred older guys.
The film demonstrates what can happen to a child if he grows up sharply, but does not grow up. And how it will be perceived by others. The film clearly traces the idea: if you approach adult problems with children’s spontaneity, they will be easier to solve. After all, we, adults, children’s problems also seem not at all as significant as for the children themselves. In a word, we need to treat problems more easily so that they stop torturing us. And it doesn't need any marketing that Josh was worried about. And another easy way to distract and cheer yourself up is to remember your childhood and jump on a trampoline or dance on a floor piano. I really liked and remember this scene with the piano.
Susan (Elizabeth Perkins) is not in vain prefers Paul (John Hurd) Josh. The first is already an adult, so he knows how to twist, be cunning, wants to make others play by their own rules. And the second one has not yet matured, so it is simple and straightforward. For this she considers him a real man, not even knowing that it is in fact childish simplicity. Perhaps, here is another thought of the film: just relates to life can and even necessary, but do not go to extremes. Otherwise, this is what might happen.
I read other reviews. Here they write that little showed the concern of the mother, Mrs. Baskin (Mercedes Rule). In the genre of the film it is indicated that it is a comedy, and there is no word about the drama. In addition, there are a number of scenes that show her feelings about the loss of her son. I think that was enough for comedy. If it were a drama, then yes, I would agree.
And I also object to the intimate scene between the main characters. The boy is 13 years old, puberty. Given the youth of today (and the film is not so old that it is impossible to draw such a parallel), he could already know what to do and how to do, but be afraid / worried, like most people, about the first time. The director and the actors showed us this well.
In short, if you want to have a good laugh at the childlike spontaneity and situations that arise because of this in the adult world, and also admire the young Tom Hanks, then I recommend you to watch this film. A good family comedy with meaning.
Imagine: there was such a time that Tom Hanks was not known or recognized. And maybe it didn’t even happen that Hanks became a favorite and respected actor for several generations in a row, and maybe this recognition would happen later, but it was released in 1988 on the screens of a kind family film "Big" (although I was more attracted to the title "Grown up", which reflects the essence of the film) and in the blink of an eye became Tom Hanks favorite of the public, and before that he terribly angered our domestic viewer after a cover of "You are stupid"/b> in American production).
“Big” is a fairy tale for the younger generation, because who of us did not dream of growing up faster in childhood, so that my mother did not cry out of the window that it was time to go home because it was getting dark, and so wanted to walk with friends? And then a dream comes true – you grow up abruptly and no one can force you to do anything, if you do not want to. "Big" turned out to be a fairy tale for adults, because who from the older generation would not want to get a job compatible with a hobby, besides being a kind and clean child at heart, not understanding all the hard and greedy life of an adult? That's it. That is why co-writers of the film Gary Ross and Anne Spielberg were nominated for the Oscar for best original screenplay. That is why this picture still evokes pleasant and kind emotions, and at the same time raises the mood.
Tom Hanks was better suited to this role than anyone else. His facial expression – so cute, so boyish, as in the adult Tom Sawyer – immediately somehow somehow constructed without a doubt that this is the main character named Josh, who suddenly traveled back in time, but left childhood naivety, did not become burdened with the appearance of great gravity from the problems pressing on his shoulders. He was such a warm, sweet hero. With his good nature and misunderstanding of the world of adults, he conquers and forces to follow his character with a smile of tenderness. The main thing is that this person will achieve much in this world and will be a great bright spot among grayness and dullness. Thank you very much to Hanks for this role, which has become one of his calling cards.
To help Hanks, as it was then assumed that the 32-year-old actor needed help, were invited Elizabeth Perkins, Robert Lodge and John Hurd. Each of them had to show the adult on their side. Perkins is a lady who put her career first, but then fell in love with a clean and frank guy and now hated her past life. Robert Lodge - has achieved success as an elderly businessman, but he is somehow tired of all this, from earning money and with pleasure "breaks off" with "Josh". John Hurd is a nasty figure, careerist and intriguer who is ready to achieve success with the help of covers, not with the help of his own work. Here are the collective, but similar to most people images.
If you have not seen this tape, then you need to compensate for this gap. Good family ribbon, suitable for relaxation and a little entertainment.
What would you do if one day you changed from a child to an adult? This is the situation faced by young Josh from the movie “Big”. Sometimes we forget that we were all children. And when you look at Josh as Tom Hanks, you start to think about it. I think that thanks to the experience gained in the movie “Big”, Hanks was able to play Forest Gump well.
Thanks to Howard Shore and other composers, the film is saturated with nostalgic music, and sometimes cheerful. This music will not leave anyone indifferent, a kind of hello from good American comedies of the early 90s, like “One House” 1990, “Beethoven” 1992.
Roles: I don’t think I’ll play Josh Harrison Ford or Robert De Niro. In my opinion, the choice to play Josh Tom Hanks was a top ten hit. Hanks with one facial expression showed how well he can convey the teenage psyche. Elizabeth Perkins played just as well.
In general, the general mood of the film, for some reason, reminded me of "Alien" in 1982. Maybe it’s because I watched it recently, or maybe it’s because both movies tell us that each of us has a place we want to go back and stay, a place we can call home.
Still, the tenth place in the list of the ten best fantasy films, compiled by the American Film Institute in June 2008, speaks for itself. Thank you to the cameraman, the actors, thank you to the director, thank you to the whole set and we would like more of such films in the present.

Most likely, I would not have paid any attention to the film, if not for the name of Tom Hanks on the list of participants. In short, I couldn’t believe I almost missed it.
As a child, almost every one of us from time to time wanted to grow up, become a “full-fledged person” with all the benefits due to him. First, few people thought about the duties that steadily accompany those delicious goods, and, secondly, what will happen if it is still fulfilled? The best option - a rapid career in the field of entertainment - is now especially unlikely, and the worst is not even worth thinking about, much less disturbing pastime will be watching this movie.
1987. Computers are just beginning to be mastered in human life, they are widely used both for work and for games, so the toy in the “classical” understanding still has a completely material basis. And there's nothing more exciting for a 13-year-old than just taking his super robot and kicking a T-rex or something. But due to a fleeting whim, the boy literally finds himself trapped in an adult body. No, this is not a description of the psychological term "person-child." This is the real reality of Joshua Baskin.
Now he needs a job, a girlfriend and money. Because he's an adult. Joshua learns that you can rely on a good friend even in the most difficult circumstances, and life goes on. The main thing is not to lose yourself in this whirlpool.
The picture has amazing actors, but the incomparable Tom Hanks simply never gives any doubt about what is happening on the screen, and it is expensive. You honestly believe that somewhere, deep inside, really hid a little boy and, probably to some extent, it is.
Big - Big picture. That says it all.
12-year-old Joe was no exception and once at a fair in his hometown, he expressed his desire to a mechanical fortune teller, not hoping for his fulfillment. But the next morning gave him the biggest surprise of his life.
The film “Big” directed by Penny Marshall, released in 1988, became one of the most famous and box office films of the 80s. Tom Hanks, who played adult Joe, truly became a famous actor after the huge success of this picture, because he very sincerely and realistically played a child in the body of an adult man who managed to achieve a lot.
Despite the fact that there are plenty of movies about body change in Hollywood history, the comedy Big is still the best of them. The eccentric plot of the picture is based on special effects, and on the amazing play of actors, because, in addition to Tom Hanks, vivid images were created by Robert Loggia (McMillan), Elizabeth Perkins and John Heard.
This kind and positive film about dreams come true allows viewers to believe in themselves, in their dreams and strives to realize them, so I recommend this eccentric comedy to everyone without exception. The film "Big" you can watch at least every day and it will never get tired.
