Eternity is a great series that can and should be reviewed regularly. He will not leave you indifferent unless he is biased. The main drawback of the series is its wild naivety. Many decisions of both the protagonist and the antagonist in the main plot occur simply "because." But during the first viewing, you will not notice these little things if you just relax, watching the characters and the story!
Next(main). Avoid any spoilers, because most of the mysteries of the main plot (especially the most important ones) are solved through the conclusions of the leading characters. And when you mentally participate in this process, after the solution comes a state of euphoria. This brings you closer to the characters and reveals new details of the multi-layered plot in the sequence that the creators wanted to achieve. I will be tormented and burdened that there will be no more continuation, because the damn low ratings! The only consolation is to review this masterpiece every six months.
(for each individual series). We have a detective here, which means we have to investigate. Everything here is not as good as with the main plot, but it is watchable. Not all episodes are memorable, but individual episodes are just sweet. There is a series (these are not spoilers), where one person parodied famous killers (series 6), but someone spoiler. But if you've heard anything about 19th-century forensic science, you'll have no trouble remembering anything about these killers. Also noteworthy are the Carlisle episode (4 episodes), Jazz Episode 9, and the final two episodes of the season. These four episodes are my favorites!
Protagonist. He's nothing! He’s cute, smart, handsome and charismatic, but a little grumpy because of his age, because Henry Morgan is already two hundred years old (it is written in the description for the series, do not scold)! But I was a little upset that we were never told how what made him immortal actually made him immortal. The show doesn’t bother to explain it, though maybe it was in season two, which the hell won’t! Let those who closed the series, Eternity can not do anything else convenient!
Second Degrees. Juicy! Henry's entourage is mostly Detective Joe, his colleague forensic scientist Lucas and Abe. Joe is a female detective with a personal drama that Henry understands like no other. In the course of the series, they help each other solve their internal problems and get closer. Their joint arch was not completed, and it was still unclear whether they would remain friends or move on to the next step. Lucas is a funny comic character. He is not burdened with any drama other than total disrespect for his person. However, during the series, he grows above himself, gets closer to Henry, establishing a friendly relationship with him. On several occasions, he helped Henry with his investigations (not just the policemen), which aroused the strong sympathy of the protagonist and myself. Abe is a man with a difficult fate, to whom some episodes are devoted in part. He will never leave Henry in trouble, support him and help him choose the right path. Sometimes it doesn't work out because Henry is a little stubborn. Abe is also, to some extent, a comical hero who teases Henry.
Humor. That's great! Played with interesting and funny emotions, they elicit involuntary laughter even when rewatched. I will not tell you anything, let you feel everything yourself.
Antagonist. "Glitter and splash, my charm"! He's just great. His highlight is that half of the season we only hear his voice from his phone. From the bits of information that we learn, it becomes clear that Adam (Because I think I’m here from the beginning) is a man who went on his head. But in the course of the story, his character acquires more depth and his own philosophy. For him, any human values are alien, he will do anything for his own benefit.
Conclusion. Should I watch the series? Absolutely! This is exactly the amazing plot carried through all the episodes that many detective series lack. While in most detective series (even Castle), the detective becomes a detective because of his personal drama as a child, Henry becomes a forensic scientist (who is more useful than some detectives) for more interesting reasons. Unfortunately, the series is closed because of low ratings, which causes me a feeling of deep sorrow.
Rest in peace...
I don't know what's better... When your favorite series goes on forever and over time has 15 seasons, the last of which you look purely by inertia, because the plot is completely sucked out of your finger, and you could not find the strength to break the connection with your dear heroes. Or the reverse situation - when a good series, which for several days watched in a rush, unable to stop (another series, another series), ends in the first season. I would like a middle ground, but it rarely happens.
The series Forever (2014) did not want to be released. The end 22 of the final series of the first (and at the same time, the last) season is not quite open, but implies a further continuation. But alas, the ratings thing is merciless - "Kin will not." Such a warm and kind series, despite the abundance of dead people in each series (the main character works as a forensic scientist), I have not seen for a long time. The development of the series is similar to each other - a case that needs to be solved and justice achieved. The backbone of the main characters amicably throws all his strength to do his job well. The relationship between the characters is a separate song – touching and with good humor. Justice is probably the core of this series, along with love, care and self-sacrifice. The difficult fate of the main character, which in each series opens to us more and more thanks to the events of the present and flashbacks, forces us to fully immerse ourselves in what is happening and sincerely empathize.
Eternity reminded me of Quantum Leap and Tomorrow Comes Today. Perhaps because the main characters of these series are extremely positive characters who strive to make the world a better place. But also because all three are time-defying - what if...?
“Quantum leap” – what if it becomes possible to change the past?
“Tomorrow will come today” – what if there is a chance to prevent what will happen in the future?
“Eternity” – what if you have all the time of the world ahead of you?
And the most important question is this a gift or a curse?
When I started watching this series, I didn’t expect anything special. I was focused on recommending it alongside Castle, The Mentalist and some of my other favorite TV shows. And, I will say, I did not regret the time spent.
I liked that the series came out surprisingly warm, touching and life-affirming (despite the fact that in each series there is a corpse, or even not one). Cozy. The rich visual component is a significant plus of this series.
I really liked the main character. In the current fashion for psychopaths, “highly active sociopaths”, cynics and other socially unadapted people, it was pleasant to watch a man who, for all his baggage of negative knowledge about human nature and for all the years lived, still retains a human appearance, the ability to sympathize with other people not so eternal and just live, enjoying life. A strong contrast in this Henry was his antagonist Adam, apparently long lost the very ability to feel something (Bern Gorman wonderfully conveyed this).
There is also a remarkable relationship between the central characters. It is nice that you do not have to watch undercover games and serious conflicts in contrast to the mass of series, where half the intrigue is the conflicts between the main and secondary characters. Between Henry Morgan and Abe, between him and Joe – a wonderful relationship: trust, care and a little ironic jokes. And there is also Lucas, almost all the scenes with which - a pound of raisins.
I do not think that anything new was said in terms of the plot of crimes, but each story has its own flavor, unique atmosphere, peculiar to this series. When you live two hundred years, a lot of things are going to bring back memories, a lot of faces are going to look like other faces that died years and decades ago. How does it feel to find the weapon you were once killed with? What is it like to investigate the death of an old man you knew as a boy? In the atmosphere of "Eternity" you can feel it.
I appreciate things (movies, books, TV shows) that allow you to look at the usual from an unusual angle and things that prove that our world is not so bad. "Eternity" is one of those.
I rarely watch the first episode of the series. I usually start series that have at least 3 seasons and another one in the process of filming. I really liked the trailer for Eternity. Interesting plot, easy irony, charming and fashionable Yoan Griffith - and somehow wanted to see!
Forensic expert Henry Morgan is no different from other New Yorkers. A bit of an old-fashioned lover of elegant clothing and classical music, Henry Morgan doesn’t use a mobile phone, prefers a bicycle to a car, but can advise you on any subject that interests you. In fact, Henry keeps a dangerous secret: he is more than two hundred years old, he died countless times, but each time he was resurrected. For 200 years, Henry has been trying to uncover the secret of his immortality in order to grow old and die. Everything changes when Henry begins to actively cooperate with the NYPD, especially Detective Joe Martinez. Some of the crimes she works on involve a mysterious stranger who has the same gift as Henry.
The series Eternity presents an unusual mixture of detective and historical cinema. In each of the series, the main characters investigate some intricate case, interview witnesses, express hypotheses and assumptions, look for the key to the solution. The only thing that distinguishes Eternity from another detective series is that the action develops too quickly. However, it is worth remembering that the investigation helps a far unusual person with experience of two hundred years. In parallel with the disclosure of crimes, we go into the past of Henry - because over the years of his life he visited many countries, communicated with many celebrities of that time, was present at the investigation of many mysterious crimes. These scenes, scenes of the past, were sometimes even more interesting to watch than the main plot. I also liked their relationship with contemporary events – the wonderful work of writers, not everyone is so good at connecting the past and the present.
The cast of the series delivers true aesthetic pleasure. Dr. Henry Morgan has won our sympathy since his first appearance on the screen. For the first time we see him in a crowd of passers-by and immediately feel his difference from others, even before we know his secret. The first thing to note is its appearance: to be honest, I do not often pay attention to the costumes of the characters of the series. And here, Henry Morgan has great taste, dresses with style. The second thing that draws us to him is his knowledge and his incredible life. Flashbacks were very exciting. The third thing I like about Henry is that with every flashback, with every new story, with every new series, we learn more about the main character. He becomes more and more interesting and his character becomes richer. Add to that Jonah Griffith’s brilliant performance, and Dr. Morgan becomes one of my favorite TV heroes!
Alana De La Garza played the main female role - Detective Joe Martinez, who often resorts to the help of Henry in investigations. The heroine also keeps a lot of secrets and tries to improve his life after the tragedies. She looks good as a pair with Henry, and as a separate character. But she wasn’t my favorite character in the series. I liked McKenzie Mosey better - Abigail, Henry's beloved wife. A girl who accepted a loved one, who gave him a family that made him happy, cannot but admire. As we move forward, we increasingly understand how difficult marriage can be. We’re all looking forward to what’s happening.
Judd Hirsch played the adult son of Henry Abraham, a Vietnam War veteran who currently owns an antique shop. Their relationship - a father who appears to be 35 years old and his son, who is already an elderly man - was the most unusual and touching. Especially when they care about each other. Abe is the only one who knows Henry’s secret, understands that it is not eternal, and wants Henry to share the secret with someone else.
And, of course, I cannot forget about the main antagonist - the mysterious Adam, who has the same "gift" of immortality. He only lives in this world much longer... Already from the first episode, where he talks to Henry on the phone - already goosebumps from his "Hello Henry". Not every actor succeeds in this, to horrify the audience with one voice in the tube. And then he appears in the flesh... I want to celebrate the unparalleled game of Bern Gorman - each series was looking forward to its appearance!
I was very disappointed to hear that Eternity will be closed after the first season. I really liked the series. It is a pity that we will never see the continuation of the Henry Morgan story. As Joan Griffith said, “We need to think about what we’ve built in a year, not what we’ve lost in five minutes.” The series Eternity is a good, exciting and interesting series. I think you will certainly like him.
Why do we not have a real magic detective, when we have a couple so believable that even colorful parishes in the form of a spiral galaxy (which will happen to go in the same 2014) do not look like fiction?
How not to note the forgotten notes of freshness, lurking in the mix of genres, and in characters and scripts. This is not a replay, not a franchise, not a twenty-fifth season and not a spin-off, but a completely independent story.
In the series, good actors, the slow development of the main canvas and a smooth immersion in a world where not all people die irretrievably. You will not be forced to love the characters from the place to the quarry, there will be time to get to know them closer, and when they start to face trouble, you will already understand their motivation, and everything will be quite organic. But what is most impressive is the lack of chronic strain on the script, even within the framework of such a fantastic reality of the series. Yes, Yoan Griffith's character is immortal and incredibly insightful, but he's not here as a simple character. He is here as a prophet, as an observer: a god of water. Investigating murders, the main character is essentially a witness to the lives of everyone around him.
Why such a low rating? Everyone's fed up with your detectives, and there's another one. And for a pleasant view, I want to associate myself with someone. Who's here? The main character is too good and right guy, to hell with him. Nowadays, everyone likes Tony Stark, Francis Underwood, Walter White or Gregory House. More sarcasm, sarcastic, wit... more skeletons in the closet and bad habits. For some reason, it is so inexplicable to associate yourself with them and be a bit of a scoundrel.
So why do we need a fake detective? Yes, precisely because the stories of True Detective and Forever are on different scales and complement each other perfectly, fundamentally differing only in the wrapper. Without all this tedious soap fuss, a real warm lamp movie, well shot and beckoning with its sweet arguments about eternity, albeit from different angles of view.
Eternity is a fresh series for those who lack Joan Griffith in full-length films. There is a lot of it, and you can admire and saturate yourself.
The main character, Henry Morgan, is of course pretty, but as Lancelot in King Arthur, he seems to me much more interesting. In "Eternity," he's impeccably good, even too good, and, amusingly, at times in gestures, intonation and British pronunciation, very reminiscent of the anxious negotiating android C3PO from "Star Wars." Especially at the beginning of the 9th episode, in the scene about jazz!
By the mystery and fun of the detective cases "Eternity" bypassed "Bones" and "Castle". On the theme of the anomalously ageless protagonist there is a wonderful "Moonlight" about the good vampire Mick St. John with a more catchy plot, atmosphere and characters. Also, by the way, closed after the 1st season, unfortunately.
Ideally, every superhero should have his old Alfred, a companion and keeper of the mystery. And in ' Eternity' he is - an elderly antiquarian, also a nice and charming grandfather, who really... I won't say who if you didn't look: )
Again and again the villain-antagonist Adam is technically present, but Moriarty is in recent 'Sherlock' incomparably cooler.
And a very similar Joel Moore (remember Norma from Avatar?) was already in the same Bones and did about the same ten years earlier.
And the crystalline impeccability of the deductive method in this variation of the history of the superdetective causes me doubts (though not only in this one). "How long have you been divorced?" "Loved, how did you know?" "You have a Mrs. Magazine in your purse!"
In general, everything is somehow smooth and neither heroes nor cases caused the slightest dependence. Perhaps you just shouldn’t have waited so long for the series and hoped for a miracle? But now there is another pleasant series, under which you can rapturously peel potatoes, mow the floors or calmly fall asleep, without fear of missing something.
And yet I have found a reason to love Eternity. Here is for such "glorious dialogues and scenes" , as the one already mentioned about jazz and as an episodic episode with the transformation of "boring Chopin" into jazz improvisation in the same my favorite 9th episode. They, like spices in a hot drink, miraculously transform the same as everywhere, detective investigations.
So to watch or not? Yes, you can, quite! Especially if you like Yoan Griffith, Jazz and New York.
Well, I don't write reviews on Kinopoisk, but here somehow ... I had to say, so to speak.
To view, of course, located an interesting and unusual idea that favorably singled out the series against the background of other equals. A replacement was sought for the Mentalist, who conquered with his charisma and logic, and among the monotonous similarities to each other, “Eternity” turned out to be the most mysterious and unpredictable at first glance.
However, everything turned out to be much more trivial to check, and in the course of viewing I had to break through the script gaps, the periodic illogicality of the narrative and tolerate at first some woodenness of the main characters - but, after several episodes, the woodenness smoothed out, emotions glittered in the characters, new arches were added, in addition to simple investigations, and watching the series became much more fun.
Undoubtedly, the highlight of the program for me was, unsurprisingly, a supporting character, a completely charming and incredibly sincere Abe, against which even a slightly unreal Henry looked much better than he really was.
The main character reminds me painfully of Merle Robert’s Adamo from The Island, an equally incredibly sublime, concerned with his feelings and short-sighted humanist, and if Adamo was forgiven for all his stupidity and softness, then from the two-hundred-year-old Dr. Morgan you expect not stiffness, but wisdom. Well, superficial and premature decisions would also look better in the behavior of some teenager, not an immortal, and already mature man.
In general, this, of course, did not prevent you from getting really great pleasure from watching the series, and I think if it was not closed, he would be doomed to repeat himself, as in the case of the stretched mentalist. And, despite some strange rhythm of the series, because some of the series, in my opinion, was really passable, and between them sometimes lost the very essence of intrigue, I still from the heart bet:
8 out of 10
A series for recreation... it is a pity that very little
The plot tells about a small segment of the life of 200-year-old immortal court-medical expert Henry Morgan, who tries to find out the cause of his immortality. And, with his baggage of knowledge, extreme observation and perseverance, he becomes an assistant to the police homicide department. They also face problems of greater importance than human ones.
The series is saturated with a kind of lightness and warmth. It is very cozy and suitable for family viewing. It is not something out of the ordinary, ordinary detective series with its own twist. Especially penetrate into the soul moments when this or that case of his detective activity causes him memories from the rich past. These moments make him think about what is happening in his life in the present, and sometimes give a clue to solve the case. At the end of each episode, Henry summarizes and draws conclusions. . .
The role of Henry Morgan is played by Ioan Griffith - a British actor, I remember only the role of Kevin from '102 Dalmatian' - who perfectly coped with the role of Henry. Also extremely surprised by the presence of such actors as Emily Kinney (Beth Green, ' The Walking Dead'), who played a cameo role, and Bern Gorman (for me, known for the role of Owen Harper, ' Torchwood/ Alien Hunters'), who played (here spoiler)_________ the role of an immortal villain.
It was a pleasure to watch this light and cozy series.
But, like everything beautiful, this series is very small. Oh, and another season two in this spirit and that's when you could finish it. . .
What do we know about Eternity? Not much. But Henry Morgan knows and now shares this secret with us. Some dream of becoming immortal, seek it, study it, others avoid such an outcome. Mr. Morgan is a phenomenal doctor, forensic scientist and scientist, possessing an analytical mindset and denying everything supernatural, only one mystery could not solve - himself.
“Eternity” is a fascinating, addictive and original series, and although it is analog, it still surpassed its prototype – the series “New Amsterdam”. I watched it with great pleasure, all the characters and storylines are worked out, each in its own way is original. You can think and relax. Unlike many other series, “Eternity” likes from the first frame. It is peculiar, due to the fact that the main character Henry Morgan has a very interesting backstory. Thus, the creators were able to make an ordinary detective very entertaining. Most of all, it is impressive that Henry’s wisdom, knowledge and observation can be explained by his long life, which, even compared to Sherlock Holmes, wins. You can not call this story, well, very innovative, yet it is very interesting. Perhaps this is due to the wonderful presentation and coordinated work of the creators and actors.
Besides, the series has a very stylish soundtrack. He is not screaming, does not attract attention, and at the same time, creates a special atmosphere, giving a pleasant mood. Stylish, here you can call everything - the characters, their clothes and just a picture. Magnificent panoramas of New York, not uncommon in movies, but so alluring and beautiful. Aesthetic decorations, antiques, sophistication and gloss contrast with the theme of murder, but look concise together. Excellent flashbacks, small, but atmospheric and colorful, endowed with a special charm of each era. Henry Morgan is very organic in each of them. Memories open the veil in the mysterious and very unhappy past of Henry.
Yoan Griffith is absolutely his role, his gestures, facial expressions are very skillful. The game is easy, easy, convincing. The second brightest character is Abe. Actor Judd Hirsch is incredibly attractive in this role, he came out of a very charming retirement son – support, support and a strong shoulder for Henry. I really liked the actresses. Alana de la Garza is a beautiful woman, plays well, her heroine, also harbored bitterness and nevertheless showed endurance and strength. Mackenzie Mosey is incredibly convincing. She is very organic in her image of a woman of the 40-50s of the twentieth century and at the same time perfectly revealed the character of the heroine, a wise, strong, reliable and understanding wife. Hilary Burton (Iona Payne) is a minor character, but very tasty and bright. Beautiful actress and image. I also want to remember Lucas, played by Joel Moore - a ridiculous, but funny and colorful character. Bern Gorman performed the antipode to Henry Morgan, a very ancient Adam who personified the other side of immortality. He wanted to, in moments, empathize, and maybe try to understand, but still he pushed away. Brilliant work.
In the series, philosophy is woven with fine threads - such questions as: "Do we need immortality?", "What does the invulnerability of the body do to the human soul?", etc. And even simple truths, like mental pain, incomparable with physical, loneliness, bitterness of loss. It all affects. And all this, coupled with a good plot, interesting stories, restraint, a complete lack of vulgarity and propaganda of violence, creates a beautiful series “Eternity”. I've seen it twice and it's not boring either. It is a pity that “Eternity” was not eternal and the series was closed. As always, in the most interesting place.
And yet, the question remains - what is eternity - a blessing or a curse?
10 out of 10
Interesting idea, but the implementation of a little jumped up
Charge
The series, in which a female police officer is assigned some strange man, after which they go together to solve intricate crimes - this has long been a stamp (for example, the same "Castle" or "Mentalist"). “Eternity” is one such series: in it, the New York detective Joe Martinez is helped by a very eccentric pathologist Henry Morgan.
They meet after the pilot episode of the subway train with Henry gets into a terrible accident, turning into a mass murder. The main character has every reason to suspect that someone started hunting him, and the fact that Martinez is not against involving him in operational work is very useful.
Everything would be quite normal, if not for one "but": Henry is immortal. He's been around for hundreds of years, changing personalities like gloves. Hence the through line stretching through the season from investigation to investigation.
Characters
I liked Yoan Griffith as the immortal Dr. Morgan. In general, it is plausible to play a character who has experienced so much, not at all easy, but the writers and the actor coped, creating an optimistic and playful man, periodically sinking into depression from the hopelessness of his own situation and how many people he lost. Detective Martinez, on the other hand, turned out to be much more pale and boring, which is not helped by the fact that Alan de la Garza – pales against the background of Griffith and Hirsch.
Characters of the second plan are very different levels. Incredibly pleased Judd Hirsch, who played Henry Abe; especially nothing, except appearance, did not remember the former wife of the main character Abigail; partner Martinez Hanson and assistant Henry Lucas look with perplexity, so monotonous they play.
Impressions
“Eternity” is a series with a huge and largely wasted potential. The idea of an immortal protagonist looking for the meaning of life or a way out of it is very good and interesting, but the relatively weaker character of Detective Martinez, an amorphous villain and often weak dialogues did not give him the right place for such an idea.
Fans of detective series, however, can try. Henry as a character is quite strong and interesting, and Abe is quite good. Inspired by Sherlock Holmes deduction in some places pleases, and inserts from the past of Henry made very high quality, and add depth to the father and son. In addition, the project closed after the first season, which makes it almost perfect to relax and dilute other things you watch.
Filmed in general not bad, interestingly selected interiors and costumes. The voiceover is quite average: the compositions are used only to amplify, but not to create an atmosphere.
Conclusions
“Eternity” is a fairly average detective series with a good idea and mediocre implementation. Lovers of the genre is quite worth a look, the rest - it is better to pass by.

There are some TV shows (I don’t know, unfortunately or fortunately), after watching which you can only say one thing: “What a cute thing!” It may not sound quite literary, but this word, in my opinion, most accurately reflects the essence of such creations. In “Eternity” there is no deep idea and impeccable its embodiment, there is no multi-movement intrigue, first-class actors – there is much that is not there. Although let’s be fair, the series where all this is can be counted on the fingers. But the film is certainly kind, sentimental and... cute. Perhaps not least, this feeling arises from the soft humor that imbues the series.
The main disadvantage of the tape is the same as that of its many counterparts: taking a good idea as a basis, the writers do not twist it. The plot remains potentially promising, although, admittedly, the season finale is quite witty. Knowing that there will be no continuation, the authors rather amusingly resolved the situation.
What's the movie about? On the eternal confrontation between good and evil in its modern detective incarnation: again Holmes and Watson, that is, detective Joe Martinez and forensic expert Henry Morgan. But there’s a catch: Henry is immortal. This very good and witty plot move makes you think about whether eternal life is necessary. Is it worth experiencing the death of loved ones, incarnate in different places under different names, become attached to people and again lose, lose, lose... Although, to be honest, the authors do not dig deep. Yes, probably within the stated genre and format is not necessary.
I would classify this series in the "holiday-paste" category. You know, on a cold winter evening, comfortably sitting on the couch with a mug of fragrant tea, watching a series or two, experiencing moderately and immediately forgetting about the joys and sorrows of the heroes. There's nothing wrong with that. Light, sweet and kind films about good people are also definitely needed.
The actors were mostly pleased. Ian Griffith, a kind of budget version of Henry Cavill, in the role of Dr. Morgan is quite good, although he absolutely does not suit antique costumes and very old stupid hairstyle in episodes with memories. But in its modern form, it is very elegant. Not too impressed with Alan de la Garza in the role of Detective Martinez, some snake-like appearance of the lady. And acting skills are clearly far from outstanding. As always funny Joel Moore, for the hundredth time embodies the image of a good slut, and, perhaps, a good old man Judd Hirsch as the adopted son of the main character.
In general, I had a good time and with a light heart let go of the characters, not blaming the writers for the lack of continuation. The film ends so logically that the sequel would become a fairy tale about a white bull and would negate all those cute moments that attracted the viewer to the series.
So that's fine for once. And who knows, maybe that’s what the doctor said. Morgan prescribed it for you.
For a very long time I walked around and about this series, could not decide to watch, although the trailer was really interested, and the charm of Yoan Griffith was difficult to resist. Therefore, having dealt with other TV series, attention to which was distracted from ' Eternity', I managed to take a look.
From the first to the last series of the first season, I did not regret a single minute spent on the series. Yes, at some points it seemed that the plot is a little protracted or events are not as dynamic as they could be, but overall the impression remained more than pleasant. The plot, although it touches quite ' beat' theme of eternal life, but it looks decent and original. An interesting approach to the main character and his life, his environment, habits and image in general: Mr. Henry Morgan seems to have become a collective image of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.
It is simply impossible not to sympathize with Dr. Morgan, and his son Abe is a bright star of this series. Together, they formed an ideal picture of the relationship between father and son, between which not just a family connection, but a strong friendly, trusting and fairly open relationship. Family scenes radiated a real warmth, so the main line of murders and their revelations looks bright, fresh and interesting, and the mystical mystery of the protagonist only adds 'spects' to the plot.
I was very happy with the dynamism from the first scenes of the series to the last. All dialogues and reflections are correctly dosed, diluted with humor to one degree or another, and the memories of the protagonist have separate minutes ' flashbacks' filmed with the preservation of the spirit of the time, which is spoken of. Especially pleased that the creators of the series refrained from bed and snot-tear scenes between the characters, which would definitely spoil the impression.
How do I start talking about this series shorter? He's great! In fact, if you think about it, in this genre there are already so many TV series and films that it is quite difficult to surprise or even amaze the viewer, because everything that can happen to cops partners we have already seen more than once. No, the writers of the series were able to surprise me, and in some places even amaze me.
If you stop at the third of the season, you will think that the creators did not have any creativity and new ideas, because the first 6-8 episodes do not bring any new thoughts to the viewer who saw something similar in such series as Castle, Mentalist, Bones, etc. But! This “but” is the main highlight of “Eternity”: the protagonist Henry Morgan, or rather his feature – he is immortal. He's 236 years old and doesn't age after 35. And his work is also close to his unusualness - he's a pathologist. Trying to solve the mystery of death, he meets new friends of detectives. Relationships and actions of the characters are quite predictable, but this is compensated by good deeds and good humor.
Music and heroes aren’t bad, they’re just good. As always, there is Chief Detective Joe Martinez of the opposite sex and smarter than all the other employees. There's a hilarious geek assistant to GG and another detective to increase the number of supporting characters. Also the cohabitant and owner of the antique shop Abe, who is closer to the viewer, due to the complexity of his character. It is impossible not to mention the main villain Adam - he is beautiful, and often turns out to be smarter than our immortal. It is worth highlighting the 11 and 22 series - the end of the half season. They are as expected made with maximum perseverance and it is clear that the best plots were saved by the writers so that during the break of the series the viewer would suffer from options for further events (Hello Sherlock).
In the end, “Eternity” turned out to be a great and partly unconventional series about police officers, and I do not cease to be amazed by the stupidity and inadequacy of the producers who are just fools who close the series because of low ratings in the most interesting place. "Terminator", "Firefly", "Almost a Man", "New Day", "Constantine", and now "Eternity" - these are examples of the greed of stupid American producers who want only money. This is especially true for the firefly.
Why Good TV Shows Can't Last Forever? Why was Eternity closed after the first season? It is not clear why this series failed to gain the proper number of views to continue.
Among all the detective series I’ve watched, Eternity stands out above all for its extraordinary twist—an immortal morgue worker trying to unravel his mystery of why death bypasses him. As a morgue worker, he helps detectives solve cases using his years of experience. And one day he meets a fellow like him... an immortal who is also trying to break his “curse.”
Although the plot of each series is quite trivial, the overall storyline is intriguing until the last episodes of the season. Maybe due to the acting, maybe due to some charm from the memories of the main character, maybe due to the touching of rather deep topics such as love, time, family, death. I can't give you an exact answer. But the show is catchy. He's clinging hard.
There is also a series “New Amsterdam”, which is very similar to “Eternity”, but the first did not take root at all, and therefore after positive emotions from “Eternity”, you do not want to watch 8 episodes of the already closed Amsterdam with Coster-Waldau in the title role, especially all fans of the series know it for a more spectacular role. But I was distracted.
Summing up, the series is worth giving it time and it is a pity that it did not catch on.
Henry Morgan looks like an ordinary uncle, when you meet him, you may not even deign to pay attention to him. He works as a medical examiner at a local police station, digging into corpses and leading a rather introverted lifestyle. In his profession, he is a real expert who is able to name the cause of death of a person, see small invisible details that can help the investigation and not only. Such a huge poop at Henry for a reason. The fact is that Henry has been living on this mortal earth for two hundred years and still cannot die. Or rather, he may die, but every time after that he resurrects, being completely naked in the cold water of the nearest river.
In fact, the series turned out quite strange. He absorbed a part of many other popular fellow series, giving a kind of own mix. But what is most fun, in general, all this porridge turned out to be delicious and interesting.
The plot frame repeats from series to series, telling us a separate holistic story of the investigation of a mysterious murder, so to speak, from the very discovery of the corpse to the capture of its killer. The same technique was, for example, in the TV series "Lie Me" with Tim Roth. Although, of course, it is worth admitting that the storyline that does not affect the disclosure of murders, so to speak, the line associated with the life of Henry and other personal affairs of the main character is much more interesting than in the same one.
Henry Morgan helps the investigation with his sharp eye, extensive experience directly in his profession, as well as the vast experience accumulated over centuries. On a couple with a detective-girlfriend Joe Martinez any complicated cases are transformed into something simple and quite understandable. There's a real problem here. Each investigation is based on one scheme, which is not difficult to determine after several series. And if you watch the series so to speak in one go, then this reception begins to get pretty annoying. I want something more interesting and complicated.
Because of this, the series got a strange temporhythmic. The very first series are immersed completely in the series and this is not surprising, because we are just beginning to get acquainted with the main characters and understand what is arranged here and how. After this acquaintance, the series slows down and honestly begins to repeat itself and show nothing new. Then, closer to the middle, there was again a sharp push and a new wave of interest, and then again a decline. That's the rhythm of the series. The series throws up and down with peculiar waves, not allowing the viewer to decide whether it is good or not.
I loved the flashbacks throughout the series. They tell the story of when Henry was still mortal, how he became one, and how he lived all these two hundred years as an immortal. Thus, the viewer receives not only a picture of today, but also the entire insanely long life of the main character.
The characters of the series, though to a greater extent turned out to be template, but no less interesting. There is a charming partner-girlfriend of the doctor, his stupid and funny assistant, perfectly diluting the seriousness of the series, the 70-year-old son of the main character is a very useful and weighty character for the picture, etc.
In general, the series remained good impressions, although in some places it was boring, banal and uninteresting.

This Queen song and this series are made for each other, it would be a great soundtrack. But he's great on his own. Such genres never really interested me, before I had no craving for foreign TV series at all, after Merlin, this changed, but still the pickiness and selectivity remained. I don’t stick to every show, I’ve only seen Dracula and Tudors, but I’ve missed these detective stories. I can’t even be tempted to watch House, Sherlock, The Mentalist, and other stuff. The first episode of “Eternity” was shown to me by a friend, watched on the phone during the break between couples from nothing to do and then it started to happen. I just fell in love with him!
Who dares to love forever? Oh, when love must die!
The most interesting part of the series is undoubtedly the story. Quite original and fresh idea of immortality, not tarnished by directors. Even if the idea itself is not new, but presented in a very interesting light. Mystery, mystery, mysticism of the protagonist go hand in hand with his analytical mindset, phenomenal memory and sobriety. Of course, there is an analogy with the same Sherlock Holmes, who was pretty shot in the series of the same name. Thus, "Eternity" wins over all such series - it catches its simplicity, without actionable angles. And even more interesting, in the background of all the events, is the love line. Henry’s deep feelings are confronted with two opposites: the first betrayed, disbelieved wife and the second understanding, caring, supportive. Mackenzie Mosey played the role of Abigail, her fragility and at the same time inner strength. Of course, you can not be silent about Joe Martinez in the polishing of Alana de la Garza. Always reserved, strong-willed, very beautiful woman, with her weaknesses and tragedies. I also liked two other actresses, Janey Brookshire, who played the young Gloria Carlisle and the charming Hilary Burton as Iona Payne. By the way, I was hoping there would be more between Iona and Henry.
Oh, who waits forever anyway?
The first thing that made you look at this series is the honest young officer from the Titanic, played by Yoan Griffith. I liked him even then. Here he appeared in a completely different guise - gallant, intelligent, fair, charismatic and mysterious Henry Morgan. A magical image that Yoan delightfully conveyed. It is very unusual to watch a true Englishman of the pre-Victorian era solve crimes in modern New York. In flashbacks, we show his bright, but not always happy past. By the way, everything is filmed very qualitatively, in each era you believe, each carries its own atmosphere and mood and everywhere Mr. Morgan looks organic, there is no dissonance. Henry has amazing facial expressions and gestures - it looks very natural. He's a human X-ray. I really like his ability to notice every little thing and always provide interesting facts. The other actors are also brilliantly selected, each image is interesting in its own way, each is attractive in its own way. I really liked the charming Judd Hirsch as Abe, who was the most reliable friend and loyal support for his bicentennial folder. Funny Lucas is Joel Moore, a very colorful character, as are Lieutenant Joanna (Lorraine Toussain) and Detective Hanson (Donnie Keshawartz). Naturally, there is an anti-hero - Adam, played by Bern Gorman. He was, as he should have been, disgusting and disgusting. He and Henry are so different, but at the same time the same, only they are able to fully understand each other and are presented here as the personification of good and evil. And, if sometimes criminals are able to attract more attention and favor the viewer more than the main character, then here, in one hero, human vices are collected that turn away from themselves.
Forever...is out today
In general, the series came out on "Hurrah!". One of the few, recently, really high-quality and interesting. It is hard to believe that he received a low rating, for which he was closed. And how hurtful and unfair when they close such smart things as “Eternity”, the same “Dracula” 2013. After all, the rating is quite high, and on IMDb - a rating of 8.30. But against the backdrop of endless seasons and trampling on the spot in other famous TV series - "Eternity" is a fresh and short alternative that does not have time to come down, unlike the rest, where the plot is sucked out of a pretty sucked finger. Personally, I was interested in watching each series, each was interesting and special in its own way. It was a pleasure to hear philosophical thoughts at the beginning and at the end. Most importantly, despite the theme and sometimes quite “juicy” views in Henry’s work, there was not a lot of violence and aggression, as well as vulgar and explicit scenes. All events, even the work of Iona Payne, were presented in a good frame of decency, for which a separate thank you! The series is built on completely different principles, unlike many other projects. I express my gratitude to the creators for such high-quality work and for having a very good time watching this series.

Eternity is an American television series about a medical examiner who has lived for more than 200 years and is trying to unravel the mystery of his longevity. In what situation there was his curse (or gift) I, of course, will not tell in the review, but the idea is very good, even though it was already in the series “New Amsterdam”.
The main role was entrusted to the Welshman Yoan Griffith (Henry Morgan), and he is very even a “burner”, embodying on the screen a mixture of Cumberbatch and Lee Miller with a pinch of Lieutenant Colombo, but this is not the main achievement of the creators of this show. The main achievement is the opportunity to feel the atmosphere of the “lamp” series of the 90s.
“Eternity” in this respect resembles not only the above “Colombo”, but also such series as “Commissioner Rex”, “Purely English Murders” and others. The series is not replete with expensive special effects and a large number of guest stars, but catches its kindness, humor and naivety.
Against the background of other modern serial shows showing cruelty and violence, "Eternity" looks somehow surprisingly kinder, although it shows a very childish work of police and forensic experts with all the ensuing. The storyline of the first season was built on a sufficient level, gradually revealing the mysteries of the past life of Henry Morgan, around which the trivia revolves.
I can also mention actors Alana de la Garza, Joel Moore, Donnie Keshawartz and Judd Hirsch, who played Joe, Lucas, Hanson and Abe respectively - each of them left a positive impression. Burne Gorman in the role of Adam reminded me of modern Hannibal Lecter from Mikkelsen, but it goes to him only in the plus and the character turned out to be colorful and memorable.
The series received a rating of 8.30 on IMDb and 7.7 on Kinopoisk (100% positive reviews so far), but was closed after the first season, which shocked its fans, including myself. On the one hand, it is very upsetting, on the other – “Eternity” because of this can become if not a cult, then a very iconic series.
The tendency to produce series that are similar to each other, with only a minor component, is depressing. Maybe it’s a crisis of ideas or an interesting story to create every year. Don't know. But the fact that Eternity has nothing new is immediately apparent. So what is this series built on? This is the same as I described below.
The main character. He is always smart, reserved, beautiful and mysterious. Once something terrible happened to him, that he became moderately withdrawn, but at the same time did not lose the skills to communicate with people. Successful with women, he loves only the one thing that was with him before.
The main character's girlfriend. She's a beautiful and strong woman. Working mainly in the men's team, she became coarse and obtuse. But in the soul is necessarily very fragile and feminine. At first it refers to the main character superficially, but gradually it turns into friendship / love / wedding.
Enemy. Every hero always has an anti-hero. At first, being in the shadows, he plays his game and knows much more than others. And they go hand in hand in the plot, so different and at the same time the same.
Friends and colleagues People you can trust. They will help the hero in every possible way, participate in his adventures and in the end they will all become very close. Among his friends are usually distinguished by such personalities as a humorist, a strongman and an elder.
So what did I find out after the first season? When you watch it, you see déjà vu: I’ve seen it all before. Castle, the Mentalist, Bones and even the Highlander. But at the same time, it cannot be said that everything is bad here. It looks quite normal and does not cause much boredom.
Should you watch it? Only if you have already watched all the important series and just want to score some time.
P.S.
The series was closed after the first season. These are the pies.
The protagonist of the series “Eternity”, Dr. Henry Morgan, does not have a unique signing look, but he is no worse than some consulting detectives understand people and not only. Try to live 200 years and not learn to look at the little things. Complete with immortality comes a great sense of style, an innate gentlemanhood and a British accent.
Do not expect something super-original from Eternity - if you are an avid fan of TV series, then much will seem familiar to you, even the topic of immortality. Dr. Morgan, who certainly has a passion for scarves, is not a sociopath at all, but one (also very popular) character who is always charming and polite. Epochs change, progress moves, but Henry behaves like any self-respecting gentleman of the early nineteenth century and dislikes technique and modern music.
Do not expect from “Eternity” and intricate cases – for the most part, all crimes are ridiculously simple. But what characters are involved! Kings, nobles, ballerinas, rockers and jazz musicians... This series is suitable for everyone who loves the detective genre, but wants to just relax, not really straining his head. Comfortable to get in a chair, forget about the problems and just watch as Henry Morgan with the help of partner cops reveals one crime after another - a great option for a soothing evening.
“Eternity” immerses its viewer in a wonderful light atmosphere filled with the warm light of lamps and the smell of antiques, which is sold by Henry’s adopted son Abe. By the way, the relationship of an eternally young father with an elderly (but, nevertheless, very cheerful) son is one of the best lines in the series. This strange couple alternately worry about each other, joke or just care. And who is the father and who is the son, and not immediately tell. Always different.
The leading characters in the series are generally remarkable and very lively. You get into them quickly, and when you watch the last series, you absolutely do not want to part with them. Funny chatty Lucas is Henry's assistant in expert affairs, a geek and at heart director, as well as a fan of his boss. Joe Martinez is the same policeman who comes for help to a smart amateur, although she does not miss. Hanson is Joe's partner, a little unlucky, but dedicated to his job. Finally, Lt. Rees is the “big mom” of the entire NYPD branch, looking at Henry with some kindness. I want to say a lot about these heroes. And then there is the antagonist, a mysterious stalker named Adam, who burst into the relatively quiet life of a two-hundred-year-old forensic scientist (it is difficult to live carelessly when you have to hide your immortality), who has his secrets. This hero is also interesting and remarkable, but you can not tell about him without spoilers.
There are two more pleasant moments in Eternity. The first is the connection to history. Whatever the case, Henry Morgan will gladly give an interesting brief lecture on customs, statues, paintings and more, until he is interrupted by one of the cops. The second, directly related to the first, is flashbacks. During his two hundred years, Henry experienced many interesting events concerning both his family and iconic periods and personalities of history (Dr. Morgan was once involved in the investigation of the murders of Jack the Ripper and knew Hemingway). They are charming in their own way and do not bother at all. And there's a wonderful character in these flashbacks, Abigail, Henry's wife since 1945. Their story is beautiful and even tragic, and in these small fragments of memories, the doctor’s wife appears as a very integral character.
What, in the end, is “eternity”? This is a detective with an easy excursion into the history and unobtrusive morality at the end of each episode; a series with charming and interesting characters - both main and secondary and even episodic; a cozy atmosphere and pleasant, kind humor. And like a drop of tea in lemonade, a drop of British on American television.
This is a very template serial detective, created in the spirit of “Mentalist” with his conditional Patrick, Teresa and bloody John. But unlike his older brother, neither brilliant wit nor dynamism.
So, the story of solving crimes, where the protagonist is an immortal forensic expert with Dexter’s tricks, Sherlock-Holmes habits and Kenny’s abilities from South Park, along with a partner detective, masterfully investigates intricate crimes, which (of course) can only be solved by him. Well, in his free time from work or hobby, trying to find the solution to his immortality, and finding an attempt to get rid of it, because he is tired of being resurrected.
The series is polite, calm, with a mystical background. Which, however, is secondary and very superficial, where it is just a screen behind which hides a particularly unremarkable medical procedural serial detective with a rational development of the plot and its traditionally logical ending in each episode.
The series “Eternity” is a picture after which there is no sense of filth, or fear, or sadness and longing, as after many of the current top TV series, of which I am a great fan. Light, interesting, without rivers of blood and violence. I wonder why I liked this series.
Since the plot of the series is not connected with events, there is no blind desire to wait for the continuation, but you are waiting... You wait every episode. To fall on the couch and look at nothing. relax.
So, the protagonist is an elegant man, middle-aged, smart, gallant, compassionate and insanely intelligent. His role caused me to associate with Downey Jr. in Sherlock Holmes. Constant attention to the smallest details, bringing simple truths to others - and voila, you are the smartest.
The main character is not remembered. He constantly makes a puzzled face at any statements of Dr. Morgan.
Especially like references to the past of the Main Hero, qualitatively filmed, well played.
In view of the absence of snot-bed scenes, and in general scenes adored by girls, the series is recommended for viewing by everyone.
10 out of 10
So, if someone else decides to watch or not, I will say a few words.
In general, this is an ordinary procedure, just the main character has its own feature in the form of an endless life, dating back more than two hundred years. This feature manifests itself in two ways. First, each, even the most passable, series with a banal murder disclosure is permeated with the story that Henry tells, or, most often, he himself was involved in the events of the past and was somehow connected with current victims, criminals or witnesses – we are told about this by good flashbacks. Through these same references to the past, we get to know Dr. Morgan’s character and long life. Secondly, in some episodes, the protagonist is still urinated, and he comes to life with a series of funny situations caused by the need to hide his immortality.
Well, there are two lines in parallel. First, it's a relationship with his adopted son Abe and partner Joe. The first is delivered by the fact that the son is much older than the father externally. The second paints us friendship without any romance, which, I think, will happen for the time being. Secondly, there is also a cross-cutting plot in the form of a struggle with another one, only much more “older”, immortal named Adam. This confrontation is a bit incomprehensible episodic in nature, when Adam trolls Henry about and without, and he can do nothing with him for quite understandable reasons.
The series came out quite stylish and interesting. Each episode you look forward to, hoping for some unexpected events, so after watching very often a little disappointed. But, in general, the impressions are still only positive: the plot is unobtrusive, but at the same time not primitive. Even in the simplest series, not only crimes, but also characters are revealed, and the authors are not fixated on Henry and Abe, but allow us to look into the soul and to some “one-time” participants in the process.
The project is confidently on its feet and certainly deserves attention.
What if Sherlock was a babysitter? Well, okay, probably the idea of this obviously ladies' series with the inexpressive title "Forever" was still formulated in slightly different terms, but the point is that the audience, according to the creators of this show, is already tired of cynical misanthropes. “Doctor House” ten seasons quickly limped on the television screens of the world, “The Mentalist” for the seventh season is arrogantly shaking its blond hair, and the “Sherlock” periodically pops up in the air grid of the native BBC, as well as on the other side of the Atlantic. Molly Hooper syndrome from time to time exposed to many of the fair sex, for whom rude and impregnable men have some special attraction, but it would be time to break this old pattern and show the world the hero of a new sample. The sharp mind, pleasant appearance and charm of Sherlock-like characters are invariably overshadowed by not particularly pleasant character traits. “Cleaning” all these ugly behavioral roughness, you can get almost the ideal of a man. Probably.
Henry Morgan, “inherited” by the script the profession of Watson and good manners, and without the world famous cap is a completely recognizable type. A slightly eccentric and a bit antisocial Englishman with a love for stylish scarves and a passion for medical-detective riddles obsessed with the work of colleagues in the shop. Excellent education and extreme observation allow him to solve crimes almost single-handedly, leaving the police only the opportunity to occasionally wave a service weapon. However, his uniqueness is not in his genius, but in his longevity. Mr. Morgan's vast knowledge has been accumulating for years, of which there have been many. Instead of chanting the power of the human brain, a mystical element is introduced here, and no matter how much Henry tries to solve the mystery of his survivability by scientific methods, there is definitely magic involved here ... well, something like that. After one violent incident a couple of centuries ago, instead of sinking, he suddenly emerged unharmed. And since then, every time he is killed, and this happens in almost every episode, his life sweeps before the viewer’s eyes in a tunnel of memories, after which Henry just pops up somewhere near the Brooklyn Bridge in which his mother gave birth and the series continues ... and continues ... and continues.
No, purely technically, it does not last long, but the endless resurrections of the main character manage to tire in the first half of the first and so far only season. This idea to some extent works in the tenacious series “The Vampire Diaries”, where some characters have already managed to go through the full cycle from man to vampire and even back, having been in the corpse stage several times. It works for a number of mutants from the Marvel Universe, as well as for the series “Heroes”. But the hard truth of showbiz is that these talents require a certain level of self-actualization. Watching a good guy endlessly throws himself under bullets, knowing that at the same time he absolutely does not risk anything, except publicity and spoiling another elegant suit, after a number of times becomes simply boring. Yes, sharpness, despite all these criminal investigations, is definitely lacking here, and the romantic line with the detective model appearance is still in its infancy, not allowing the series to rush into the vanilla-marshmallow distance, which is to some extent pleasing, but also creates some genre uncertainty.
The end-to-end arch with the mysterious Adam, apparently the immortal incarnation of Moriarty, designed to introduce a long-playing intrigue, seems more like a side storyline, periodically chaotically wedging into the procedure. And although the relationship of Henry and Adam theoretically have the potential to go along a steep and slippery path a la Hannibal-Will-Gram-style, it is known that the writers of this potential are not going to use, because their plans do not include tickling the viewer’s nerves and arrange him emotional shakes. In this, on the one hand, the problem of Forever is too smooth, idealistic ... fresh. That's his beauty, on the other. And let there is nothing special in this serial gum, thanks to Henry's charming cheerful, unobtrusive blackish humor of slightly dorky secondary characters and a light romantic retro flashback flair, you can quite pleasantly pass the evening with another episode and a cup of hot aromatic tea. Milk and no sugar, please.
Here we see a very harmonious mixture of fantasy and detective about an immortal man who has lived on earth for 235 years and has seized a huge amount of knowledge and skills. Of course, this idea immediately captured me, like the synopsis of Castle.
The protagonist, Henry Morgan, has a peculiar ability, at the same time awkward, thanks to which, having got into a car accident, received a bullet, or having got into any other situation that entails a lethal outcome, he does not die, but is reborn in the nearest reservoir ... though completely without clothes. And besides this absurdity, he has many reasons to get rid of immortality in order to live a normal life, grow old and die - so he looks for some kind of loophole in his situation, working as a pathologist and investigating death. I must say, this role seems to have been written for one actor - Joan Griffith literally got used to it, however, nothing special and doing nothing, this is his usual facial expressions, movements, mannerisms, but how they fit Henry Morgan!
Then there will be a well-known stamp, because at some point Henry meets a charming detective named Joe Martinez, who is almost no different from other similar heroines. Her image embodies Alana de la Garza, but there are not enough stars from the sky, playing as expected. In her heroine, both in character, professionalism, and in appearance, you can find a lot in common with Kate Beckett from Castle, except that Joe is not quite skeptical, but there is no charm in her, and in general the character is not half as well worked out.
The creators focused more on Henry, each series is associated with his rich, bright and in many ways tragic past and is complemented by flashbacks. Henry has an adopted son named Abraham, or simply Abe (Judd Hersh), who is over seventy, and looks more like a father than a son. Abe is Morgan’s only confidant, and the secret is likely to die with him, but who knows what will happen next?
And of course, in the series there is the main antagonist Adam performed by Burn Gorman, his age is more than two thousand years, and at first he seems to be a fairly typical villain like Moriarty (and Henry, as you understand, here is something like Holmes), but still with each episode it turns out that he is not at all simple.
The other thing that discourages viewing is the limping authenticity that you demand from any detective, and you forget that there is also fantasy. In fact, the series has one advantage, more than covering all the “trouble” – a stunning atmosphere. A kind of mixture of Victorian England and modern New York, incited by the eccentricity of Henry Morgan and the simplicity to the brain of the bones of his partner pathologist Lucas.
On the output we get joy for the eyes and aesthetic perception of reality. Undoubtedly, this series has brought something new to the world of television, and I hope that, despite the low ratings, it will still be renewed for a second season.

Last fall, a new detective series Eternity was released on television, the plot of which is based on the fact that a New York pathologist with Sherlock Holmes inclinations named Henry Morgan helps the New York police, namely, a girl officer named Joe Martinez, solve intricate murders. One episode, one investigation. It would seem that such detectives are now a pond, and many of them are pretty tired.
However, there is one significant “but”. The aforementioned Mr. Morgan, an eccentric and extraordinary Briton, has actually lived for 200 years. And it would seem that the only person in the world who knows this secret is Henry's son, old rogue Abe. But everything is not so simple, there is a certain mystical character who spoils the lives of the heroes and introduces the main intrigue to the series. To answer the questions “what, how and why” will help you view “Eternity”.
Of course, I support the unanimous opinion of the reviewers about the abundant number of stamps in the series. All these detective conclusions of Henry (by the way, have long been qualitatively worked out in the acclaimed BBC Sherlock), some stupid behavior of the police, no shocking murders can easily spoil the impression of viewing. But you know, the film catches on completely different, focuses on more important details.
The life of Henry Morgan was greatly overshadowed by suffering - the betrayal of his first wife, imprisonment in a psychiatric hospital, torture, disappointment in his father, the First and Second World Wars, the loss of a beloved woman, etc. Sad, terrible, heartbreaking personal tragedy.
Those we love most can hurt most deeply.
With all this, the hero always looks ahead, is filled with an inexhaustible charge of positivity and good mood, constantly works and improves himself (although some old-fashioned habits remain behind him), cherishes the remaining close people and new friends. Henry went through mountains of trials and difficulties, but remained kind, bright, caring and in every sense a good man. From the screen, he always speaks painfully simple but eerily understandable truths. And we should learn from him.
We all have secrets. There's nothing wrong with that. But we all need a partner, a friend to share secrets with. To some extent, shared secrets tell us who our true friends are. These are the people we trust the most.
I won’t say much about actors. The three main actors - Yoan Griffith (Henry Morgan), Alana de la Garza (Joe Martinez) and Judd Hirsch (Abe) coped with their roles exactly as much as the director demanded. I especially like Yoan Griffith, because I really expect heavy dramatic roles from him and clearly see that he will be able to get used to any character and play it 100 percent. It is a shame that filmmakers do not notice this.
“Eternity” differs from other detective series with a note of carefree humor in the relationship between father and son, light sadness caused by Henry’s memories, and warm sincere friendship between an officer and a pathologist.
This series will never become a masterpiece, will not remain in the memory of most viewers, is unlikely to receive any significant awards. But if you want to spend a lonely evening with a cup of coffee watching something unstressful and relaxed, then feel free to turn on the first season of Eternity.
And enjoy your viewing!
The American machine, which produces movies and TV series, does not cease to amaze (I do not admire America, but they know how to do this). Closer to the point... "Eternity." It so happened that before him I watched “Flash” and “Dexter” and all the forensic experts, and concurrently brilliant detectives, with the latter Henry Morgan even the same name. Maybe there was some fashion for forensics, maybe a coincidence, funny. The hero of Eternity, however, is the most experienced, after all, a little less than 200 years of healing. Henry is too correct, an example of morality itself, a kind of antipode to the character of Oscar Wilde. Give Dexter this ability, he would reduce the population of the Earth by three times, and Henry uses it for good, and tries to unravel his secret.
Of all the series about immortality and the supernatural, this truth is unlike any other. His ability is not at the forefront, of course it is an integral part of the plot of the series and its idea, but the series itself is also a good detective. In one of the reviews, I read that this series is trying to retreat from the cliché. Yes and no. I’ve already written why “no” and “yes” because the series has a banal structure: each series begins with a murder, ends with its disclosure – on the one hand it is touching, as it resembles the good old “Lieutenant Colombo”, and on the other – after American writers fed us such products as “Breaking Bad”, “True Detective” and “Dexter”, where throughout the seasons (!) the story keeps the viewer in constant tension, one storyline develops, the next series is not similar to the previous one, I want even more, even more, even more genius.
Despite its simplicity and some shortcomings, in particular, the mechanism of his death, that is, how he disappears, where his belongings, traces of blood, DNA go, is a little unclear. Players are happy, and I want to solve his mystery with him!
A lot of movies and TV shows have been made about immortality over the past year, even half of them can not be remembered. And every director considers it his duty to touch on this topic at least once and dig as deep as the writer’s imagination.
You don’t have to go far, only this year there were many movies and TV series about vampires. The basis of which is the plot that tired of his immortality character is forced to look for a way to die, and making it not a ballet suicide, but somehow subtly pushing the main character to his murder. All that stuff. The idea is that there is a mythical character who seeks to meet his creator, taking as many innocent lives as possible. All this is already quite tired, you want some variety, and the creators were able to breathe life into this genre, literally rethinking the very essence of eternal life.
After watching the pilot series, and later the remaining nine, I can say with confidence that the message of this series is fun, the storyline is concise, and the entire cast is very professionally selected. It is not clear why he has such a low rating that bosses want to close him before we enjoy a full season, but the fact remains.
The undisputed plus of this series in its attempt to escape the clichés of this genre. The director immediately set himself the goal of showing us an ordinary person who does not look like a mountaineer, a vampire or an ordinary immortal. The series focused on the scientific nature of the entire narrative, on the fact that we are still an ordinary person who is trying to unravel the tangle of immortality and understand what he is dealing with, and most importantly, whether he is alone with his problem or not.
Plus, the director does not focus only on this, because the main character is forced not so much to get to the bottom as to fight for his place under the sun. The director is curious to see what will come out of a man who has lost loved ones for so many years, as he tries to fit into a rapidly changing world, and in general into society. There is a lot of diversity on the face.
The cast is fresh, frankly, did not even have time to catch a look. That's good. That's probably another plus. Because looking at the same face, which migrates from the series to the series, is already boring. And seeing Yoan Griffith for the last time on a fantastic Thursday and right here is great.
To summarize, the series looks easy and relaxed. The director does not burden us with clever phrases, ridiculous situations, etc. The plot develops in calibrated steps, gradually becoming confused and unraveling, slowly and competently. And the comedic moments that arise in the series, in my opinion, are a pleasant addition to help us fully imbue this series.
I’ll be watching what happens next, but this is definitely a fresh look at the story, which is intriguing and has been keeping you on edge from start to finish for nine episodes.

This series is just a breath of fresh air! I haven't seen anything so light and unobtrusive in a long time. At the same time, you get great pleasure from watching.
An interesting idea is not overloaded with details - and this is good! Remarkable castes are very charismatic actors. The absence of excessive pathos, far-fetched drama, provided that enough global problems are covered, the spirit of New York City is very pronounced, stunningly charming and original Main Hero. All these qualities made the series “Eternity” for me very interesting. Each episode flies in one breath!
The most amazing thing is that the series contains many cliches and stamps. But they do not spoil the overall picture. On the contrary, make viewing even more enjoyable. I would love to see at least one full season of this project!

At the moment, the series has a disgusting rating and there is a threat that it will be closed prematurely. In my opinion, this is completely illogical and not normal, I can not remember a more charming, attractive, natural and charming film. What a pity that do not affect the prospects of the series, we can only be sad, waiting for the most unfortunate development of events. . .
I want to highlight the brilliant work of specialists working on the series. Makeup, costumes, lighting, camera work - all of them make the characters extremely beautiful, stylish and elegant.
Human relations are built between the main characters both at the energy level (which is called a spark runs) and at the tactile level, which is worth one kiss by Henry at the top of Abe during a game of chess, which immediately arranges their real adult-younger ratio, despite the significant and visually inverse age difference. . .
Everything that happens on the screen is charming and will be very sorry to lose such a bright movie. .
Well, yes, I'm biased, I really like Griffith, it's time for him to get a new big lead role (it's been a long time since Horatio), otherwise it's some giant universal injustice and a crime against humanity.
The pilot series of this series came to me by chance. There was simply nothing to watch, and the long-running series did not have the time and desire to start.
I'm a sincere fan of Joan Griffith's talent. An actor with incredible charisma, to my surprise, does not have many roles behind him. So Mr. Fantastic is probably the only role most people know him for. And then suddenly this series came out.
The first thought was, um, well, doctors again, probably passions in the hospital and retro style of storytelling. However, to my complete surprise, eternity here does not mean the torment of the viewer when watching the series, but the connection of the main character with different centuries! The hero is immortal, not very happy about it, and for some reason is looking for a way to die. And let us see the already worn image of the mentalist and Sherlock, but Yoanne perfectly and tastefully reveals his character!
And just the style is worth noting in this series, pleasant, classic, calm, like a tuxedo, with good humorous moments. I don’t regret watching this series. This novelty is worth it to immerse yourself in an interesting investigation with the magnificent Griffith for 40 minutes.
