The cartoonist Ivan Maksimov is often criticized for the “wrong” drawing. Instead of a dog or a girl, he paints shapeless amoebas, which he manages to endow with individual characters. But the artist is not going to change his handwriting: he suffered his fine technique in a long search. Having come to the cartoon, I wanted it to be funny and beautiful. But soon I realized that beautiful is not funny. It is not perfect lines that entertain, but defective forms. If you want the viewer to smile, the image must be primitive. Hence – and recognizable Maximov’s “amoebas”: on the face terrible, kind inside.

Ivan Maksimov – “man-orchestra”: director, screenwriter, cameraman, clipmaker, advertiser and artist. And in the first profession, this polyphonic author is also a physicist. And hereditary. His father, physicist Maksimov Leonid Alexandrovich, is a famous scientist, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Maximov-son also followed in the footsteps of his father: he studied in physics and worked at the Institute of Space Research, and before MIPT he worked at the Institute of Biophysics of the Academy of Medical Sciences. Then he changed his life and went to the Higher courses of directors and screenwriters. Since childhood, he drew and therefore without problems mastered the profession of animator. The director-animator was the daughter of Ivan Maksimov Ekaterina Bim. On their joint account - more than a dozen animated shorts. And among the victories of Ivan Maksimov - the prize "Nika" for the cartoon 1993 "Bolero" and seven prestigious nominations.
