After graduating from school, Andrei entered Leningrad State University in 1980. At the end of the fourth year he went to the special command and returned to the rank of lieutenant. Until 1991 he worked in a group of military specialists. Then he resigned and got a job as a correspondent for the Smena newspaper in Leningrad. In 1993, he created a criminal division in the newspaper and became its head. The Chance Publishing House established the Investigative Journalism Service on his initiative (1996). In February 1998, Andrei Konstantinov became General Director of the Agency for Investigative Journalism (AZHUR), which includes several print publications and the Internet portal Fontanka.ru. Since the same time he has been teaching a course on investigative journalism for students of the Faculty of Journalism of St. Petersburg University. He conducts seminars in Russia and Europe on this topic, speaks at international forums.
Andrei Konstantinov is the author of criminal books “The Criminal World of Russia”, “Advocate”, “Gangster Petersburg”, “Journalist” and others. He writes alone and co-authors with different writers. So, in co-authorship with Alexander Novikov, the novel “Specialist” was released, and the historical novel “Sword of the Dead” was written together with Maria Semenova. The total circulation of Konstantinov’s books is more than 10 million copies.
From 2004 to 2011 he headed the Union of Journalists of St. Petersburg.
He was awarded the medal “For Combat Commonwealth” (2003) and “For Services to the Fatherland” of the 2nd degree (2006). In 2002, he became a laureate of the Person of the Year award, and in 2012 - a laureate of the St. Petersburg Journalists Competition.
