Ivan Vladimirovich Dykhovichny was born in Moscow in a creative family on October 16, 1947. His father is a famous playwright, songwriter, and his mother is a famous ballerina. After school, Ivan went to study at the Shchukin Theatre Institute in the workshop of Lviv and Shikhmatov at the acting faculty. After graduation in 1970 he worked as an actor in the Leningrad Theater of Miniatures, then became an actor of the Moscow Drama Theater on Taganka.
In the late 70s, Ivan decided to leave the theater and entered the Higher Directing Courses. As a student of courses, he made several short films as coursework. His sketches attracted the attention of critics. Unusually offered to the audience plot, which imperceptibly supplanted ordinary reality with fiction, but clothed in easily recognizable forms - this is the main feature of his works. His first feature film came out in 1988.
"Black monk" (screen adaptation of Chekhov’s novel) is an unusual film with a vivid artistic emotional effect. The characters themselves in the film receded into the background and remained only pale silhouettes.
In 1992, Ivan made a film.

Dyhovicny has two sons. Ivan Vladimirovich died on September 27, 2009 in a Moscow clinic. He died of cancer of the lymphatic system. Ivan Vladimirovich was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow.
