Roy Dautris was born on May 26, 1923 on the British island of Guernsey, in the Channel. At the age of 14, he was able to join the British Air Force, convincing the commission that he was already 18, and fought as part of a squadron under Guy Gibson. After being captured and imprisoned in a German concentration camp, he played camp performances, mostly in female roles. Roy Dautris met several Canadian prisoners of war who instilled in the young actor a passion for baseball, which became a hobby for life. After the war, Dotris graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, then for thirteen years he played in the troupe of Frank H. Fontesquieu "Famous Players". In 1958, he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, and in 1959 he formed a baseball team with Albert Finney, Paul Robson, Lawrence Olivier, and Peter O'Toole. Roy Dautris made his film debut in 1965 (Heroes of Telemark). He is known for the films Amadeus (1984), The Scarlet Letter (1995), The Cutting Edge (1992) and others.
