Although Marvin John "Jack" Nance was born in Boston, he grew up in Dallas and began his acting career at the Theatre Center there.
Together with the troupe of the children's theater, he toured all states until he finally headed to Los Angeles to continue his studies in Pasadena Playhouse. But instead of Los Angeles, he went to San Francisco, where he spent eight years playing on the stage of the prestigious Conservatory Theatre.
He really enjoyed participating in avant-garde productions, especially by Brecht.
In the late 60s, he appeared in the title role in the play "Tom Payne", after which he was noticed by critics, and some time later received an invitation to participate in the film "Bushman", very noisy and positively received by critics.
Almost all of his free time Jack spent (or at least tried to spend) plowing the waves off the California coast. On December 31, 1996, Jack Nance was found dead in his home, and police suspected suicide. Since the actor lived alone for several years, there are no witnesses who can confirm or refute this opinion.
