An ordinary village girl who had lost her family could not suspect that a visitor from the city who calls himself her father was capable of lying, and that in fact he was a stranger who just needed to find shelter. She, Natasha, believes Jordanov so much that his attempt to tell his “daughter” the truth almost turns into a tragedy. Natasha is sure that she remembers him from the time when the trees were big, a phrase that became the title of the film. Jordanov himself begins to believe in what he invented, and this becomes a salvation for both the orphaned girl and for himself.
The role of Jordanov in the film by Lev Kulijanov
When the trees were big Yuri Nikulin played, and Natasha was Inna Gulaya, a young gifted actress who was barely twenty years old. Nikulin, an actor by that time experienced (although there were few dramatic roles on his account), was shocked by the depth of her play. Inna, a student of the Shchukin Theatre School, proved to be such an extraordinary and emotional actress that the film “When the trees became big” became a classic, a pearl of domestic cinema.
The fate of the actress, which began with such a brilliant work, has always been difficult. Inna Iosifovna Gulaya (born 9.05.1941), who debuted as an actress at the age of 19, became famous even before entering the theater school: her first films were the comedy “Noisy Day” and the drama “Clouds over Borsk”. In order to become a professional actress and gain the experience necessary for admission to an acting university, Inna worked at the factory: she got a “pass to the actress” at the cost of hard work. And when Gulaya studied in the theater, she married the director Gennady Shpalikov, gave birth to a daughter Daria. The actress could have had a brilliant career and be very happy, but Inna's husband, after an open statement against nomenclature in art, became an outcast. Inna Gulaya, his wife, also fell a shadow.
Unable to survive the tragic coincidence, Gennady Shpalikov committed suicide. Inna remained a widow with a young daughter in her arms and a bleeding wound in her heart. Sixteen years she struggled with herself and a ruthless life, and then the actress changed her strength. Inna Iosifovna died on May 27, 1990, the death of the Honored Artist of Russia remained a secret, but according to one version of the investigation, an overdose of sleeping pills became the fault. /
