George Ivanovich Burkov was born on May 31, 1933 in Perm. His father worked in the old factory district of Perm – Motivilikha, becoming the chief mechanic of the plant. From 1955 to 1956, George Burkov studied at the law faculty of Perm University and at the same time attended the evening studio at the Perm Drama Theatre from 1955 to 1958. Each of his attempts to enter theatrical Moscow universities ended in failure.
While Georgy Ivanovich was working at the Kemerovo Theatre, he was noticed by a well-known journalist specializing in theatrical articles. In Moscow, she told about the self-taught actor to her friend director Boris Lvov-Anokhin, who worked at that time at the Stanislavsky Theatre. It was he who invited Burkov to Moscow for the artistic council of his theater. Thus, in his 32 years, without special education, the actor began to play in the capital’s theater.
Since 1965, George Burkov worked as an actor in the drama theater of K.S. Stanislavsky, from 1970 to 1971 - in the theater "Contemporary", since 1980 he was an artist of the Moscow Art Theater named after Gorky. From 1984 to 1987 he was an actor of the Pushkin Theatre. From 1988 to 1990, Burkov headed the Shukshin Center for Culture.
Burkov’s first film role was episodic, in 1966 he starred in the Soviet-Polish film Zosya. And a year later, my painting.
"Zigzag of luck." He was invited by Eldar Ryazanov. Then came the role of Misha in the film.
"Irony of fate, or With light steam" , perfectly played Burkov and "traitor to the Motherland" in
Garage .
George Ivanovich Burkov died in 1990 at the age of fifty-seven years. The tragedy occurred when he was preparing for a new role in the film by Eldar Ryazanov. The actor in his library reached for the book on the top shelf, could not resist and broke his hip on the armrest of the sofa, causing a clot to come off. Despite the operation, the actor died three days later.
