Leonid was born on March 15, 1935 in Moscow and died on July 25, 1972. Armenian by birth. Leonid’s father worked as a cook, and his mother was a dressmaker.
As a child he was very interested in poetry. A favorite poet was Pushkin. A favorite writer of fairy tales was Andersen. I loved watching puppet shows. I've been boxing since I was a kid. After graduating from high school, he began to study at the Institute of Physical Culture. After a while, realizing that sport is not his path, he dropped out. After that, he entered the Circus School. Learned to be a clown. Got a solo clown degree. He made his debut at the arena in Novosibirsk in 1959.
He became an employee of the Armenian circus collective.
In 1960 he constantly went on tour to Kharkov, Tbilisi, Voronezh, Minsk and other cities. In 1961 - in Odessa, Baku, Moscow. He had an amazing success when he made his debut in the Moscow circus, which is located on Tsvetny Boulevard. Then he toured abroad in Krakow and Warsaw, where his performance was also a resounding success. In Leningrad in 1962 he was awarded the medal of the best number of the year. There was an acquaintance with his best friend R. Bykov. Then there are shootings in the film “The Way to the Arena”, where he plays the main role. In 1964, he played in Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors by a shepherd.
In 1965, the International Clown Competition was held in Prague, where Leonid received the first place, along with this - and the title of the best clown in the world. His novels have been published in Prague newspapers.
In the same year, Jarmila Galamkova (actress and journalist of Czechoslovakia) gives birth to his daughter Barbara.
A year later, a documentary about Leonid Engibarov appears, filmed by director Lisakovich.
Leonid releases his books with novels, starred in “Necklace for my beloved” in the role of a clown, in “Bake shops”.
On July 25, 1972, the world’s best clown dies. He was buried in Moscow on the territory of the Vagankovo cemetery.
