American film and television actor Rock Hudson (real name Roy Harold Scherer Jr.) was born on November 17, 1925 in the village of Winnetka, Illinois, USA. During the Great Depression, the father left the family, and the boy’s mother remarried.
After the war, Roy Scherer tried to study, but due to poor academic performance, he left this class. However, since childhood, he dreamed of cinema. The dream came true only in 1948, when he landed a small role in the film Fighter Squadron. That was the year Scherer became Rock Hudson.
He did a lot of filming:
"Words written in the wind" "Magnificent Obsession", "Giant", "The Mirror Cracked", "When September Comes", "Winchester 73", "Intimate Conversation" - with each film he increasingly won public recognition.
From 1955 to 1958, he was married to actress Phyllis Gates. This was done to take his eyes off, as he had long felt attracted to men. However, the actor’s orientation was carefully concealed. After the divorce from Gates, Rock had less work. One of the last successful films of the actor was the film Blake Edwards “Dear Lily”.
In the early 80s, Hudson was diagnosed with AIDS. The actor hid this information from loved ones, but in 1985 it became known that Rock Hudson is terminally ill. A few months later, he died. The ashes of the actor were scattered over the Pacific Ocean.
