Fall Out Boy (sometimes abbreviated as "FOB"), an American pop punk, emo, alternative rock band, was formed in 2001 in Wilmette, Illinois. The founders are bassist Pete Wentz and guitarist Joseph Trohman. Initially, the musicians played metal, but soon moved to pop punk. After that, the band was joined by vocalist Patrick Stump and drummer Andrew Hurley. The name of the band, as the participants tell themselves, was invented at the request of the musicians during one of the concerts. "Fall Out Boy" is the name of the assistant to the Radioactive Man from the Simpsons comics.
The band's debut album, From Under the Cork Tree, released in 2005, was a huge success. The album has won several awards and is also certified double platinum after the number of copies in the United States alone exceeds 2.5 million. In support of the album, the band went on a concert tour in 2005-2006.
In 2007, FOB released their fourth studio album, Infinity on High. It climbs to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, and the number of sales in the first week reaches 260 thousand copies. The lead single, "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race", peaked at the top of the Pop 100 chart and was number two on the national American chart. Rolling Stone magazine puts the disc at 46th place in the top 50 albums of 2007.
In February 2010, the band announced their breakup, although no official press statement was made. Subsequently, the musicians announced an indefinite creative leave.
With their work, the group has a significant impact on the punk movement. Following the release of Believers Never Die - Greatest Hits in 2009, Allmusic described FOB as one of the major rock bands of the 2000s. "Fall Out Boy" sounds similar to the sound of bands like
