Then came work in research institutes. When he was 25 years old (1986) he defended his thesis in the field of biochemistry. As Ernst himself notes, since childhood he wanted to work in film, so he decided to abandon his internship in Cambridge to devote himself to working in television, since then it was more relevant than cinema.
Since 1988, Ernst has been working in the program “The Look”, which was broadcast on Channel 1 of Central Television. In addition, in 1988-1989 he tried himself as a director, and then as a producer of the films Radio Silence and Homo Duplex. The following year was marked by his participation in the role of host and author of the program “Matador”. As Ernst noted in his interview, at this time, together with Listyev, he worked on a plan for the transformation of the First Channel, which in 1994 was renamed ORT. In 1995, Listyev became the general director of ORT, and Ernst became the general producer. In this position, during the first years of his work, he implements a number of projects, including TV series.
"Leading force" .
"Memories of Sherlock Holmes" etc.
In 1996, he showed himself as a screenwriter working on musicals.
"Old songs about the main thing" (3 parts). In 1998, two events took place at once. Ernst receives TEFI, and is also included in the list of Kommersant, consisting of the richest and most famous people in Russia. A year later, he became the General Director of ORT, and in 2000 again received the TEFI prize.
Behind Ernst many awards and a large number of projects that he managed to implement on television, acting as a director, producer or screenwriter. Of course, as is usually the case, assessments of his work are mixed. So, in 2007, he was awarded the anti-prize “Absatz”, as he was presented in the nomination “Honorary illiteracy”.
