The commander of the Okovalkov reconnaissance battalion (Alexei Serebryakov) is sent on a special mission: he must capture a sample of the new weapon of the mujahideen, the Stringer anti-aircraft complex, which poses a serious danger to Soviet pilots.
Preliminary intelligence indicates that the mujahideen are planning to transport several such installations in the near future, and the protection of their caravan will be minimal. Okovalkov together with his detachment arrives at the scene of the operation, but then it turns out that the intelligence was incorrect - the caravan has a very reliable, well-armed guard. Realizing that the carefully designed operation fails, Okovalkov decides to hide and wait until the column passes by, and then return to the unit. However, an automatic queue accidentally released by a young soldier violates the plans of the main character of the picture “Caravan Hunters”. An unequal battle breaks out, during which almost all the soldiers of the detachment die.
