How do we learn? What do we know? Every night, two young people, Patricia and Emil, meet on the sound stage to discuss learning, its role, and the path to revolution. Student uprisings, workers’ strikes, voice-overs, provocative and satirical images reflect their words.
Godard again ponders the importance of matching sound and image and experiments with them. The result is a picture endowed with philosophical and political meaning, ragged montage, emerging noises enhance the impression. The film is imbued with the spirit of France at the time of student strikes and at the same time reflects issues that are still important today. Godard, as usual, creates a film - an experiment, his characters meet at night, on the sound stage and discuss the surroundings, as if separated from reality, inserts show the surrounding world.
In 1969 he was nominated for the Golden Berlin Bea. close
