Richard Melville Hall was born on September 11, 1965 in Haarlem, New York. A relative of writer Herman Melville, who wrote Moby Dick, he earned his nickname “Moby.” After his father died in a car accident in 1967. Moby and his mother moved constantly: first to Danbury, then to San Francisco, and at the end of the fall of 69, his mother left him in the care of his grandparents living in the city of Darien.
Moby’s first band, The Banned, was renamed Uxb, DD, before settling on the final name of the Vatican Commandoes. Starting with the reworking of songs by other artists, the band later began writing their own songs in the style of punk rock, these were the singles “Housewives on Valium” and “Wonder Bread”.
Since 1984, Moby has worked as a DJ for Beat in Port Chester, New York. His first single "Time's Up" (1989) sold only 8 copies. In 1991, Moby released the single "Go", which sold more than 1 million copies worldwide. He's getting famous.
His first album, Everything Is Wrong (1995), was named Album of the Year.
1997 saw the release of I Like to Score, which included music written by Moby for films including James Bond Theme.
In May 1999, a new album “Play” was released, which went platinum in more than 25 countries and sold 10,000 million copies. /
