It also serves as Karavoichuk’s farewell to audience as well as his last address and reminder of things that are truly important – love for your fellow man and virgin nature. close

The play by Lev Dodin based on the novel by Vasily Grossman can be considered a civil act. A huge novel, which was published with great effort only in the perestroika years, on the stage of the MDT turned into a story of one family against the background of socialist construction of a “bright future”. The main character is a talented Soviet physicist Viktor Strum (Sergei Kuryshev), who does not want to sign false papers and be a blind tool in the hands of an almighty state. Strum’s mother, Anna Petrovna, was sent to a concentration camp during the war, but her letters continued for many years and helped him to be more moral than everyone else. Anna Strum plays Tatiana Shestakova - she goes to the forefront and addresses her son, prays for patience and, in fact, teaches faith and humility. One day, Stalin will call Strum, and then he will find himself in a painful, terrible situation when he will have to choose between high ideals and the very possibility of living. The threat to physical existence in Dodin is opposed to the threat of losing oneself, and the tragedy of one person becomes the tragedy of the whole world. The scene is divided diagonally in two by a metal volleyball net, but the ball is played only twice here - at the beginning of the first and second acts. The rest of the time, it just divides the space into two camps. And the death of Strum's mother in the gas chamber, and his own spiritual death of that boundary, will not shake. close

The world of the city of Kalinov at Andrey the Mighty is similar to a gloomy and funny fair performance. He is a savage and savage man. Characters appear from the dark, like the revived heroes of the Palekh boxes, they are rolled out on platforms, like fixed lubricated figures. Their speech resembles that or said, that or a chap, that or a funeral weep. This world is monochrome, occasionally illuminated by terrible flashes of lightning. He is evil in his archaic and attractive exquisite exoticity. The mighty, dissecting the constituent parts of the Russian myth, peers into the unchanging way of people’s life from time immemorial: where a free, extraordinary person lives in the environment of someone else and servitude. The Mighty Katerina is explained in the language of folk song, similar to bird corking. The natural language is incomprehensible to the template Boris, who answers Catherine with operatic arias. Between two voices, as between two people, lies a chasm. It's going to kill love. The mighty puts the “Thunderstorm” as “life: about the travels of the soul in the search for love.” Having found love on earth, it is sent to another, immaterial world. There, fluttering out co-scenes, rejoicing will rush Katerina. close

One of the notable features of the performance is that in each of the three parts (Bala, Taman, Princess Mary) And not only from the point of view of the difference in images and character, but literally: the leading part in all parts is danced by different artists. For viewers, this is, among other things, the opportunity to see more stars of the Big One one evening.
