The feature-length documentary The Reflektor Tapes is the story of Canadian indie rock band Arcade Fire. Musicians tell music lovers in detail about the work on the last studio album Reflektor and allow you to look into the Holy of Holies. The project was directed by Kalil Joseph, who managed to prove himself well in working with Kendrick Lamar and American DJ Stephen Ellison (Flying Lotus). The director without false modesty reports that his tape is a work of art that unites the musical and personal history of the characters. The project is based on video recordings from concerts, travel, exclusive interviews and footage from the personal archives of the performers.
The band was founded by spouses Win Butler and Regina Shassan in 2003. Arcade Fire originally promoted contemporary art, giving preference to happy-going concerts. The musicians have 4 incredibly successful and popular albums. The debut album took 8th place in the ranking of “100 best Canadian albums”, and the last double disc, released in 2013, blew the world charts. In the same year, the band produced the soundtrack for Spike Jones' fantasy melodrama "She".
The pair were inspired by the culture and traditions of Haitians. The lovers spent a wonderful holiday in the picturesque places where Regina's parents were born. Haitian music and Jamaican rhythms had a significant influence on them. Open to new styles, the singer and multi-instrumentalist began to experiment with sounds, adding fresh material to the previous developments. The lyrics to the songs were mostly written by Butler, inspired by his favorite film Black Orpheus.
Work on the LP began in 2011. After 12 months, ex-LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy offered his help as a producer. When it came time to reap the benefits of the triumph, the celebrities decided to talk in detail about the process of making the album.
In the film The Reflektor Tapes, the team shows fans videos made during a trip to Jamaica and from a vacation in Tahiti, vivid episodes from impromptu performances, talks about a trip to Montreal and recalls stunning concerts in Los Angeles and London. In an interview, the stars admitted that they were incredibly lucky to work with a talented director, and his works are a real film work that has no analogues. close
