Brian May was born on July 19, 1947 in Twickenham, London. He began to master the guitar from the age of seven, and at fifteen he already played in local amateur groups. Since 1965 he studied astronomy at Empire College, specializing in star physics, in 1968 received a bachelor’s degree, then entered graduate school in the Department of Astronomy of Infrared Radiation, later taught mathematics in one of London schools. Since Brian could not afford to buy a Fender Stratocaster guitar, he made a guitar of his own design from a wooden fireplace shelf and motorcycle parts - he still plays on it. Along with her studies, May continued to play in the band 1984. Although the band disbanded in 1968, May and former bassist-vocalist Tim Staffel (then a student at Ealing College of Art) formed the band The Smile, inviting drummer Roger Taylor. After Staffel left in 1970, the remaining members of The Smile were joined by Farouk Bulsara, a fellow staffer who changed his name to Freddie Mercury. The created group became known as "Queen", and with the arrival of bass guitarist John Deacon began her career.
In addition to working with Queen, Brian May has carried out several solo projects, collaborated with many famous musicians - such as Ringo Starr, Elton John, Ron Wood, Leo Sayer. Officially, his first independent work is considered to be released in 1983 mini-album "The Star Fleet Project", in the creation of which Edward Van Hallen, Alan Grazer, Phil Chen and Fred Mandel also participated. Written specifically for advertising, the song "Driven By You" was so successful that it was included in the first solo single, which appeared in November 1991. In 1993, the long-awaited solo album "Back To The Light" was born, his concerts in Europe and the United States were held. In 1998, Brian May toured the world for his new album, Another World.
