Popular German synthpop band Alphaville in their third album “The Breathtaking Blue” implemented the idea of combining music with a finished video sequence, which eventually became an original film. Nine directors have created short films for songs from this album under the title "Songlines".
For the song “For a Million” the video was shot by Alexander Kaidanovsky. Marian Gold, co-founder of the band, said: We were happy to have him involved in our project. We have known and admired him since we saw him in Tarkovsky’s grand film Stalker. And his contribution to Songlines was one of the most beautiful and lyrical. I was absolutely shocked when I received the news of his death in 1995.”
The video for the song “Middle of the Riddle” directed by Wolfgang and Christoph Lauenstein was awarded the American Academy Award in the nomination “Best Animated Short Film” (at the ceremony presented under the name “Balance”). Ariana is a very beautiful film directed by keyboardist Ricky Ecollet. Susanne Beer created her film as a composition of black and white photographs. close

Live performance from Schwetzinger Festspiele, 1988. What sets this IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA apart from all others available is its elegant realism. None more
Live performance from Schwetzinger Festspiele, 1988. What sets this IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA apart from all others available is its elegant realism. None of its visuals are the least bit cartoonish or blatantly designed for comedy. Dr. Bartolo’s house is a stark, stern-looking structure of plastered brick with a comfortable yet plain, white-curtained interior, while the costumes are highly realistic 18th century garb in subdued colors. Yet despite its fairly austere appearance the production is delightful, thanks to its performers and staging. The stage business is lively, witty and free of excessive slapstick, and every singer brings his or her character to life, all offering rich, vibrant characterizations that strike a perfect balance between comedy and humanity. close

The film Shuji FujiSleeping Beauty (1989, USSR) - a fairy tale about Princess Aurora, enchanted by an evil fairy.
The king and queen did not have children for a long time, but a beautiful baby was born. On the occasion of the birth of the girl, a holiday was arranged, three good fairies were invited to it, and the evil witch, of course, was not called. When the time came to bestow the princess, one of the fairies awarded her heavenly beauty, the second – a beautiful voice, and the third “gift” was a terrible prophecy of the sorceress who still appeared in the palace. She predicted that when Aurora turned 16, she would prick her finger with a spindle and die. The fairies failed to destroy the evil spells, but the “sentence” pronounced by Aurora was softened – the princess would not die, but only fall asleep for a hundred years. close
