In 1943, as Japan's WWII effort falters, a vice-admiral proposes training squadrons of "volunteer" flyers to crash their armed planes into Allied warships. Yarn follows the lives of kamikaze pilots, as remembered by an aging Kyushu restaurateur who cherishes their memory. Honoring the dead and multiple military anthems may stir the soul of some Japanese, but elsewhere auds will make a one-way trip for exits. Battle scenes are well-executed and script delivers some memorable scenes, but overall competent helming and thesping are powerless over writer-cum-Tokyo governor Shintaro Ishiara's repetitive storytelling. A post-war postscript adds considerable length to an already over-extended narrative. Tech credits are good quality. close

In 1953, a sensitive French boy finds out from a neighbor that his family's Jewish. François Grimbert becomes a physician, and gradually peels the layers of his buried family history which resulted in his difficult upbringing, raised as Catholic by his "Aryan" appearing parents. During and after the end of the Great Patriotic War, many films-dedications were created. They were reliable at least because in the hot trail of their memory they were filmed by front-line soldiers. These old tapes are a true story, which is quite enough to understand the moods, depth of suffering and feelings of the time. But even in the twenty-first century, filmmakers consider it their duty to reveal in new films what has been understated or overlooked before.
According to the plot of the painting by F. Petrukhin “Victory Day”, during the celebrations on the Khodyn field, two veterans collide. One remained a soldier forever, the other rose to the rank of colonel. They know each other, and time has changed them. Memory brings the comrades back to the year they left the front from prison. The boys were waiting for a penalty company and the opportunity to atone for their sins with blood. Penalties became suicide bombers, who were first thrown to meet the Nazis, forced to walk through minefields without the right to turn back.
Nobody wanted to die from tears and bullets, but only two survived the first, most terrible battle. To the sounds of the march “Farewell to the Slavs”, they, who have become old people, remember the past. close
