This shortcut repeats the structure of Coffee and Cigarettes. This time, Iggy Pop and Tom Waits meet in a bar. Three New Yorkers in I Am a Big Ball of Sadness meet at a big party on the roof. In anticipation of the honorary guest of the evening, a banal small talk begins between them.
Two of the guests, full of pretenses and falsehoods, condescend to the third, younger participant of the party. Events in the short film “I am a huge ball of sadness”, however, take a different turn when during a conversation two of its participants demonstrate a grief hidden deep inside, which is not typical of banal chatter at a party. A funny, accurate and all-too-recognisable portrait of what we really want to say behind empty small talk. close
