Maria Ines (Gresia Colmenares) lives in Buenos Aires with her mother Clara Eugenia (Hilda Lusek), and at the age of 15 goes to Spain, to the island of Tenerife to meet her grandparents. A friend introduces her to her brother, Martin Estrada (Gabriel Corrado), and Maria Ines learns for the first time in her life what love is. But the holidays are over, and Maria Ines and her mother return home. The next time she arrives in Tenerife, 10 years later, for her grandfather’s funeral, she realizes that she still loves him. Martin, too, cannot forget his youthful love, but he is engaged to Rosana (Milena Montes), and Maria Ines' mother opposes this relationship, considering Estrada's family guilty of her mother's death and the ruin of their family. Upon returning to Buenos Aires, Maria Ines discovers she is pregnant but refuses to have an abortion, despite Clara Eugenia's reproaches and threats. Nevertheless, having given birth to a boy, Maria Ines is forced to give him up for upbringing in an orphanage. Martin, flying from Spain to Argentina, is surprised to learn that Maria Ines works for his father’s firm and that she is being cared for by Rosana’s brother, Armando (Javier Villalva). When he learns that Maria Ines has a son, of course he thinks that it is Armando’s child, so he rejects Maria Ines and dislikes the child. Rosana, feeling that Martin is still in love with Maria Ines, hides the truth about the child from him and tries to make the life of Maria Ines unbearable. However, Martin discovers the truth, Maria Ines meets her father and discovers that her best friend is her sister, Clara Eugenia, agrees to have the baby live in her house.
