Interesting. Yeah, I haven't read the original yet. I started by watching this movie. Since my knowledge of Anna Karenina’s story was extremely limited, the film allowed me to get acquainted with the great work of the great writer.
I don’t know how, but I missed some part of the school curriculum, somehow I didn’t understand it at the time. Now I am much more interested in getting acquainted with classical works, and it is easier to understand.
This film interestingly reflects the influence of public opinion on the life of an individual. Society closes its eyes to something, and something is highlighted, condemned, excluded, neglected. There are several love stories, different people, different fates. Tragedy in the search for love and a loved one. And as a hydra over all this secular society, watches with interest, then condescendingly "washes the bones", then, like a scavenger, feast on other people's grief.
I even think that this idea somewhat overrides the main narrative about the fate of the main character.
