“The suit and the butterfly” is a good reason to start a dialogue with the viewer about painful questions: what is a person? How fragile is it? How attached to your unreliable body? Is life worth living against and against? That can only be applauded. As far as I can tell, the director followed the book. True, the film came out uneven. There are always characters who tell us something. But, first of all, they are not interesting at all. And secondly, they have nothing to say. Rather, they breed sentimentality from scratch.
The film is not distinguished by deep thoughts or stunning drama. And that may even be his strength, as are his books. Jean-Dominique Bobi, writing the book, did not enrich humanity with new ideas and was not a unique stylist whose prose would fascinate readers. On the contrary, he turned out to be an ordinary person, and we got the gaze of an ordinary person, at whose disposal was only the eye and consciousness. This in itself could be considered torture. But there is even more irony in his biography. Before the stroke, Bobi was famous and popular. Having become a vegetable, it became even more famous and popular. Because he did.
By the way, when watching there was a burning desire to fight with the operator for his bullying. No, shooting from the eye of a still hero is an obvious and necessary decision. But it is implemented horribly and periodically the camera clearly sees more than one eye can.
