The sequel, like the original film, pleases the eye with special effects and scenery. Bizarre worlds, the nature of distant planets, insane spaceflights and battles – in a word, the revived comic space opera. Spectacularity is the main thing in such films, and then James Gunn passed the exam for “excellent”.
New bright characters, alas, not as much as it could be. Star Lord's father isn't too impressive, despite being played by Kurt Russell. At first, he plays off an aristocrat-demigod, hospitable and majestic, and then ... however, it would be a spoiler.
Stalonne here, by the way, generally for furniture, his role is almost reduced to cameo.
Mantis is amusing to the point of affection, shaming her femininity brutal feminists Gamora and Nebula. About the latter: it seems that someone whispered to Gunna that making an ugly woman a ridiculous comic villain is politically incorrect, so Nebula here rehabilitated to an ambiguous antiheroine. Although still creates game, sending, in fact, several dozen people to death (well, playing an indirect role in this) only to get the opportunity to clean the face of the sister (seriously, she just wanted to beat Gamora!).
Shockerface is remembered for its brutal appearance and nickname, which all the characters consider ridiculous. In general – a standard barmalis, an evil idiot, who is not sorry to be spent.
Sovereigns pretty amused with their ridiculous appearance (common people in pathosy robes, painted with golden paint, like “living statues”). A great parody of the “ideal society” of utopias. It is clear that in the cynical and adventurous setting of “Guardians of the Galaxy” they look like clowns.
I have already written about Nebula, other heroes have not undergone any special changes. Unless Drax got more fun. And here I want to scold the second part for pretty spoiled humor. In the first film, there were no such jokes. The kindergarten skirmish between Peter and Rocket during the chase, in the face of mortal danger - all this stupid dialogue about poop, which Drax also happily joined - is already beyond good taste. Of course, from the American comedy action movie subtle humor can not be expected, but the same “Pirates of the Caribbean” somehow managed without such “jokes”.
But the dialogues of Mantis and Drax are really funny, although here the humor is rude, and is based on the fact that they are both “not of this world”: one is terribly naive, and the second is a caricature macho-savage who does not know what “tactical” is.
The abundance of stupid jokes oddly contrasts with the tragic plot. Yes, oddly enough, potentially this film should have been more serious than the first one, since two important characters die here, not as Groot, but for real (although, given that this is a comic book, maybe not).
Yeah, by the way, Groot. It is here, and now, for a change, in the form of a kavai baby, and this is good, because a portion of healthy naughtiness and cavaia in an entertaining film is necessary.
The second part is weaker than the first, but in its own way is good. The Pirates of the Caribbean in space. Fans of comics and space opera should watch (if you do not disdain "American" humor), but you should not wait for revelations.
