The Predator is apparently needed not by everyone, but he came to those who called him ... When the Requiem trailer was first broadcast on TV back in 2008, I first thought it was a joke, because I didn’t know anything about the film, although I was a fan of the theme and the first film. Later I bought the disc, yes, the same DVD that you need to insert into the player, if you have already forgotten.
What impressions did I get from the film? The best they could be. For the first time in history, the predator was a purely positive hero here (in the first Scar picture, also a great guy, but he has other motives there), so the first time the predator was shown almost as often as the main characters. The downsides of my favorite Predators (1 and 2) for me have always been that the predator was shown three times per film, but here the movie just struck me with the abundance of scenes with him, especially in the director’s version. And I, like a huge fan of the predator himself, enthusiastically enjoyed all these moments, and breezed from every fight with strangers, they were put, I must say, on 5/5 points.
Oddly enough, the storyline of “pathetic people” is also quite interesting and I, as a fan you already know who, was quite entertaining to follow their errands, something in the style of “where are you running?” There's strangers. Oh, cool, he bit his head. Or, “Did you point your weapon at the predator?” Are you stupid? Yeah. Come on, Wolf, kill his handsome friend.
If we consider Requiem as a film on an abstract topic, let’s say not as a fan of everything related to strangers and predators, then we get such a thriller action movie with a swing on the film disaster. And about his record in the horror genre... Well, this is unless you show it to very impressionable children up to six months, and so there are no horror elements here, there are hints, but there are no elements themselves. Perhaps you twitch from the surprise a couple of times, but this is probably already in any movie.
About the terrible shortcomings attributed by many to the "bloodiness" of the film ... Well, first of all, the film is still in the genre of horror thrillers and can easily afford much more blood. Secondly, there is nothing excessive here, everything is at the level of realism, which is very good in films and is not everywhere present (I recall this terrible plasticine jelly from Tarantino). In some places, the camera is even kindly turned away. And you say...
The characters were not bad. Strauss in his film managed to show quite normal people with their lives and destinies, places worn out, but who knows, maybe there in America all that. I didn’t see any bad actors either. The Wolf as a character is just amazing. After all, each predator has its own special charm, and the wolf is no exception. There is no point in describing him, but he is in many ways quite different from his brethren, which is mainly caused by his rather specific profession of "cleaner", and in main features still the same beloved by many "space hunter". And like I said, here's a predator just in a heroic role. If people did not interfere under his feet, he would have screwed up many things, and this is in a good way.
The sounds from the first predator when the Wolf appeared in the frame were just old-sculpted and this is beautiful. And the soundtrack does not need description, because it was written by Brian Tyler, and this is at least 9 out of 10.
Result Overall, no matter how good the movie is. You can look for inconsistencies and cons, scold certain moments, but why? Personally, when I watch a movie, I try to get the best out of it, and not cling to trifles. In general, I personally position the film as a masterpiece for fans of the universe, and as a passing, but rather entertaining thriller for people out of topic.
This is a very personal assessment:
