About the importance of this film to speak even somehow ridiculous. The image of the xenomorph is still a very popular meme, the word “alien” in Russian has been enriched with an unexpected new meaning. And the film almost closed forever the theme of space horror in world cinema – simply because it is difficult to shoot better. But it gave rise to a lot of continuations and imitations. Beyond the big screen, xenomorphs confidently stepped onto the pages of comics and gamer monitors. And the recognizable style of Hans Rudy Giger, who painted the Alien and the interiors of the spaceship Space Jockeys, literally hypnotized all artists and designers who were tasked with depicting something creepy, alien and gloomy - just look at the monsters of the Contra games, the interiors of the Duke Nukem 3D levels, numerous covers of "metal" music albums. Now even strange — well, the artist combined the repulsive features of human anatomy with insect features and technoorganism — and what? That’s right, with Giger’s filing, anyone is doing that now.
The film is simple, like all genius - the confined space of a starship, a few frightened and disoriented astronauts, and a terrible carnivorous monster, cunning and tenacious. And all: the rest is the talent of the creators of the picture, who made this story lively, fascinating and frightening.
The main thing is the atmosphere of the film. How slowly and cautiously the action develops, how gradually and in detail the foray to an alien planet is shown, the colossal interiors of an alien ship are majestically and frighteningly revealed, causing a mixture of delight and disgust. How Starships Swim in Airless Space. The contrast is the paranoia and panic of the second half of the film – emotions are concentrated here, the mad struggle for survival.
Important is the role of special effects in creating this atmosphere – here and the technology of the future, although pulling in our time on retrofuturism (what to do, the progress of computer technology science fiction could not predict), and alien life forms, “in the role” of which were by-products from the slaughterhouse (one of the reasons for their frighteningly natural appearance). The persuasiveness of what is happening on the screen is extremely important for both a fantastic film and an atmospheric “horror”.
In general, I am very glad that I finally got acquainted with this masterpiece in a calm atmosphere and without advertising. However, there is one paradox: the scenes that I saw as a child were the most impressive. But the part of the film from the middle to the end seemed to me a bit crumpled. Apparently, it affected the “duckling syndrome”.
Result: Do I have to say anything about "Alien"? Movie meme, film reference, film era. A film that changed film fiction in particular and popular culture in general. And let it be just a high-quality entertaining movie (the morality in it is at the level of a children's book: safety must be observed, the unknown can be dangerous, corporations will go for the benefit of anything, militarism is a badass), the very level of quality makes it a masterpiece. 10 out of 10
