Dan is a gifted graduate of Southern California Film University. He specialized mainly in satire. While filming The Dark Side directed by John Carpenter, O’Bannon had a desire to write a thematically similar but stylistically different script. Subsequently, the story called “Memory” was the first half of the project “Alien”.
Soon Dan was offered to participate in Star Wars, and he returned to Memory only a few years later. He tried to edit and bring the lyrics to mind in the company of producer Ron Schusset. After repeated rewriting, the sheets turned into a qualitative scenario. The main difficulty was to create the appearance of the Alien and “link” with him all the events of the tape.
In 1985, Dan made his directorial debut as the creator of The Return of the Living Dead. In 1991, saw the light of the film adaptation on the theme of Lovecraft called “Resurrected”, which became another directing experience of O’Bannon.
