Oh my God! Indiana Jones. From a very early age, this name gave me the impression of a classic image of adventure novels, which have been dated for centuries. Of course, I knew that these are only associations, it’s even hard to say why I got them, perhaps with the brava of cuts from films for advertising on television, or maybe it was my mother who firmly laid in me the statement “a trilogy about the adventures of Indiana Jones – a classic of adventures and just good films.”
I never wanted to watch these films, so this impression was kept in my mind until recently, when I finally sat down to watch the trilogy. Well, I can say that it still exists, it is an impression, but now I approach the hero consciously and from this more skeptical. Even “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” could not deprive me of it, for which the film is the biggest plus.
George Lucas is a famous fictionalist. The idea of making a film about the brave archaeologist Lovelace even now looks very attractive, and it is worth something. But this time I see two big mistakes in the plot.
First, it is the eternal fear of the U.S. government and the clichéd topic of bullying in Hollywood cinema – the Russians. Probably, this is one of the few themes for the plot of an adventure film in which the screenwriters show not much cohesion and solidarity. Of course, it is nice that the whole world now believes that the Russians do not get wet in the water and even their clothes do not change, because they are serious, but with the three orders of Lenin and the hero of socialist labor, someone clearly overdid it. Therefore, this film goes in my mind on the shelf to the good half of the bond.
I would like to note the moment of the fall of Russian soldiers from the waterfall. Slavs would shout anything, but not synchronized "Oh my God!"
Secondly, the laurels of the standard screenwriter of science fiction films do not give Lucas peace. I don’t understand why it was necessary to weave the old idea of higher intelligences, aliens, other dimensions and so on. Because of this, I just can’t draw a clear line between this film and the classic trilogy.
I never thought of Harrison Ford as a great actor, but what I always thought of him as was Henry Jones. I am glad that this picture was no exception. The archaeologist is no longer the same, but still remained his fuse, heroism, patriotism, “fire”, the habit of ironizing. In the end, I saw the same “walking catastrophe” (as I love to call the well-known professor), which destroys everything and everything by its appearance, regardless of how much there was.
Shia LaBeouf I just can’t take seriously, I think he’ll always be an actor starring in summer blockbusters, even if he’s in more serious movies. About his role as the son of a legend, I can say, perhaps, only one thing – we need to work on comic moments.
It’s hard to appreciate Karen Allen’s work, probably in large part because I’ve always seen Jones’s women as furniture or as a film’s entourage. The only thing I can say is that it was nice to see her in the role again.
One thing I didn’t like was Cate Blanchett. But I think it's more because of the role than because of the actress. I do not like this attitude towards the Slavs, even in a humorous form. In addition, some phrases in her Russian (the word "broken" is clearly not suitable here) could be understood the first time.
I would like to mention the special effects.
For starters, terrain. Well, what can I say, beautiful, large-scale, quite detailed. But! Somehow these locations look too pretentious, this gives a clear impression of a still picture. Such backgrounds would be more suitable for animated cartoons.
I would like to talk about the chase at high speeds, after all, she did not leave me indifferent, but this aspect I can better express inarticulate shouts, so I will confine myself to the fact that this episode reminded me of a well-drawn computer game rather than a movie.
In the end, I can say that the film is not so bad, if you consider only him. But even despite my condescension and not a special love for the trilogy, I always watched it with keen interest and laughed loudly (albeit in some places and at the film itself), but this in the fourth part I did not notice, yes, I can laugh again, but whether I would be interested in revisiting “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, a big question.
