The outstanding Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Torekulovich Aitmatov was born on December 12, 1928 in the village of Sheker. Aitmatov’s father was engaged in socio-political activities, was an activist among peasants, party workers, and later a statesman of the Kyrgyz SSR. The outstanding Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Torekulovich Aitmatov was born on December 12, 1928 in the village of Sheker. Aitmatov’s father was engaged in socio-political activities, was an activist among peasants, party workers, and later a statesman of the Kyrgyz SSR. In 1937, Torekul Aitmatov was arrested, and a year later shot. Chingiz Aitmatov’s mother was also a political worker. Genghiz had brothers and sisters with whom he grew up in Karakol with his grandfather. After the execution of his father, the family had to take refuge in Tataria.
After finishing eight classes, Chingiz Aitmatov entered the Dzhambul Zootechnicum, where he studied perfectly. From 1948 to 1953, Aitmatov studied at the Agricultural Institute in Frunze. The first publications of Chingiz Torekulovich were published in 1952. They were published in the Kyrgyz language. The next three years after graduating from the Institute, Aitmatov worked in the Research Institute of cattle breeding, but did not cease to write and print. In 1956 he decided to enter the Higher Literary Courses in Moscow, which he successfully graduated in 1958. The same year brought Chingiz Aitmatov fame. In the magazine “October” published his story “Face to face”, and later were published stories in the magazine “New world”. In addition, the story “Jamil” was published, thanks to which Chingiz Torekulovich instantly gained world fame.
From 1990 to 1994, Chingiz Aitmatov was engaged in political activities and worked as ambassador of the USSR and Russia in the Benelux countries. Until March 2008, he represented the interests of Kyrgyzstan in France, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Belgium. June 10, 2008 Chingiz Torekulovich died in Nurberg, where he was treated in one of the clinics.
Among his most significant works are such as “Farewell, Gulsary!” (1966), “White Ship” (1970), “And a day lasts longer than a century” (1980), “Plaha” (1986) and many others.
Chingiz Aitmatov was not only a writer and public figure, but also a screenwriter. According to his works, many worthy feature films were shot: “The First Teacher” by Andrei Konchalovsky, “Jamil” by Irina Poplavskaya, “Pegy Dog Running by the Sea” by Karen Gevorgyan. In 2009, a documentary about Chingiz Aitmatov “Citizen of the Globe” was released.
