The small town of Omenha (Northern Italy) can rightly be considered famous: here, on October 23, 1920, was born the writer with international fame, Gianni Rodari (Gianni Rodari). After the death of his father, ten-year-old Gianni and his two brothers, Cesare and Mario, moved to their mother’s home village, Varesotto. Here Gianni studied the violin and selflessly read Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Lenin and Trotsky, so that later, if not to share the ideas he learned with his pupils in schools, then at least to adhere to them personally.
Gianni Rodari began teaching at the age of 17, having graduated from the seminary, and later supported his education with lectures from the Faculty of Philology of the University of Milan. Poor health saved him from military service during World War II, but the future writer still had to endure the hard blows of fate: the death of two close friends and the imprisonment of his brother Cesare in a concentration camp. Unsurprisingly, these events, combined with his convictions, prompted Rodari to become a member of the Resistance Movement (he joined the Italian Communist Party in 1944).
Four years later, Gianni Rodari became a journalist for the communist newspaper L’Unita, and later became editor of the weekly magazine for children, Il Pioniere, in Rome. Gianni's works (both poetic and prose) were written for children - in the 50s his most famous work "The Adventures of Cipollino" was published, which was translated into many languages, including Russian.
The writer first visited Soviet Russia in 1952, after which he became a frequent guest. At the age of thirty-three he married Maria Teresa Ferretti, who gave him a daughter, Paola. In the late 60s, as a professional journalist, he worked on projects related to children whom he loved very much. The most famous of them are "Jelsomino in the Land of Liars", favorite "Tales on the Phone", a wonderful story "The Journey of the Blue Arrow".
World fame Gianni Rodari, who was given a short century, brought the Hans Christian Andersen Prize. 10 years after this event, he died in Rome of a serious illness. /
