Dmitry Alexandrovich Prigov was born on November 5, 1940 in Moscow, USSR. His mother was a pianist and his father an engineer. In the same year he started working in the Architectural Department of Moscow. In the late 60s of the last century, Dmitry became close to underground artists and in 1975 became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR.
The writer began to compose poems in 1956, but in the Soviet Union was not published until 1986. Abroad, his poem could be found in the Russian-language editions of the newspaper “Russian thought”, in the almanac “Catalogue” and in the magazine “A – I”.
In 1986, Prigov was forcibly sent for treatment in a psychiatric clinic after one of the speeches, but soon famous cultural figures intervened, and the writer was released.
Dmitry Prigov is the author of many graphic works, texts, installations, collages and performances. His exhibitions were organized repeatedly, in addition, he took part in musical projects and starred in films.
In 1990, he starred in a film.
