Roy Scheider was born in Orange, New Jersey, on November 10, 1932. His mother had Irish roots and his father was German. When the child was 6 years old, he fell ill with rheumatism, very hard to tolerate the disease. To improve his health, Roy played sports. For some time, he even planned to pursue an athletic career. His parents wanted Roy to become a lawyer. As a result, he graduated from Rutgers University, Franklin College of Law in Lancaster, where he began to enjoy theater.
Including 1961, he served in the army as air traffic controller of the Air Force, then played on the stage of the theater in the production of Romeo and Juliet at the annual Shakespeare Festival in New York.
