Peter Bogdanovich was born on July 30, 1939 in Kingston (New York, USA). He grew up in Manhattan, at the age of fifteen he began to study in the acting studio of Stella Adler, and he began his career as a theater actor and director. However, later Bogdanovich became interested in cinema, published critical articles and reviews, became the author of several monographs about Orson Welles, Howard Hawks, Alfred Hitchcock. Then, following the example of his French counterparts, he decided to become a director and in 1964 went to Hollywood. There he soon became close to the famous director and producer Roger Corman, worked as his assistant and in 1968 got the opportunity for a directorial debut, putting on his script the thriller “Targets”. Then Peter Bogdanovich directed the documentary film “Supplied by John Ford” (1971). The next work of the director, "The Last Film Show", brought him recognition and an Oscar. His success accompanied his new films “What’s New, Doc?” (1972), “Nickelodeon” (1976) and “Paper Moon” (1973), and the latter is considered the best achievement of the director. Peter Bogdanovich’s career experienced a sharp decline when actress Dorothy Stratten, who was engaged in his comedy All They Laughed (1981), was killed by a jealous husband, and the director himself was almost on the verge of bankruptcy, seeking to buy the rights to this film. Evidence of Bogdanovich's return was the drama "The Mask" (1985), for the role in which Cher received the prize of the Cannes Festival as the best actress. In recent years, the director has worked more on television, but, nevertheless, continues to shoot for the "big" movie - "That called love", "Death in Hollywood", "Studio 54".
