Jacques Deray was born on February 19, 1929 in Lyon, France. At the age of 19, he enrolled in the acting courses of René Simon and a year and a half later played several roles in theater and cinema. Jacques Deray was born on February 19, 1929 in Lyon, France. At the age of 19, he enrolled in the acting courses of René Simon and a year and a half later played several roles in theater and cinema. In 1952, Jacques Dere decided to stand on the other side of the camera and became an assistant director. After several years of working with such prominent directors as Gilles Grangier, Luis Buñuel, Jules Dassen, he made his debut as a director in 1960 with the film Gigolo, staged according to his own script. Jacques Deret became famous as a director of “police cinema”, preferring the detective-criminal genre. Among his best films are Pool (1969), A Little Sun in Cold Water (1971), and Butterfly on the Shoulder (1978). The director collaborated a lot with Alain Delon ("Borsalino", "Silent, bass", "Three must be removed"), Jean-Paul Belmondo ("Lonely", "Outlaw"), he also worked with prominent French actors Jean-Claude Briali, Jean Rochefort, Lino Ventura, Romy Schneider, Michel Cerro, Michel Piccoli, Jean-Louis Trentignan, Charlotte Rampling, Nastasia Kinski. Jacques Deret is President of the Society of Film Directors of France, a holder of the Legion of Honor and the National Order of Merit.
