Varnier is a French film director. A graduate literary critic, he first held administrative positions in film. Then he worked as an assistant to K. Chabrol and F. Giraud. In 1986, he made his directorial debut with The Woman of My Life. He was awarded the Cesar Prize for his debut. In 1991, the film "Indochina" won the Oscar, and in 1995 the film "French Woman" won at the Moscow festival. The last film directed by Varnier is East-West.
