The creative path of the Soviet screenwriter and director Gleb Panfilov can only be called paradoxical. Or maybe, on the contrary: it was the years and life experience that Panfilov had before his work in the cinema that allowed him to create such “unstamped” works.
Panfilov was born in Magnitogorsk, in 1934. His father during the Great Patriotic War was the editor of the front-line newspaper Forward to the Enemy.
In 1957, Panfilov received a diploma of the Faculty of Chemistry of UPI (Sverdlovsk).

After working at the Sverdlovsk plant of medical devices and research institute, Panfilov began to lead the department of propaganda and agitation of the Sverdlovsk city committee of the Komsomol. By the same time, his first screen tests also belong: a film studio was created on the basis of the department, and Panfilov co-authored his first films “Nylon Jacket” and “People’s Militia”. Amateur director and screenwriter soon becomes in demand at the local film studio, where he comes to work in 1961, while studying at the camera faculty of VGIK, and then at the Higher Directorial Courses. "Please speak." Churikova appeared before the viewer as the chairman of the city executive committee. Then there was
film "Valentina" In 1983, the film was released on screens.
"Vassa" He won the prize of the International Film Festival in Moscow. Interestingly, Panfilov was so accurately able to convey the spirit of Gorky’s novel that critics and viewers did not even notice that the plot of his “Vassa” is strikingly different from the plot of the original source. The next appeal to the work of Gorky is the film “Mother”, and again Panfilov managed to tell about the long-known. Another interesting finding of the director was
picture "Romanovs. Crown Family" Panfilov and his wife and son Ivan worked on the script for ten years. One of the director's most recent works,
picture "In the First Circle" The script of which is based on works
