Nowadays, there are not many movie stars for whom you want to watch a movie. The viewer, most often, is interested in the plot, rating or "caught" on skillfully created advertising. But there are exceptions: those artists who attract with their skill, their matchless game, which is able to "ignite" even not the most presentable film. However, real masters, as a rule, do not waste their time on second-rate paintings. One of these great, all-time, actors is Michael York.
His real name is Michael Hugh Johnson, York he became when he joined the troupe of the repertory theater of the city of Dundee in Scotland. And before that, the boy, born on March 27, 1942 in Fulmer (Buckinghamshire, England), dreamed of a theater scene, and his dream began to come true with a small role in one of the productions of Hamlet.
While studying at University College in Oxford, Michael played in productions of the Oxford University Drama Society, and later, under the pseudonym Michael York, he joined the troupe of the National Theatre, which was led by the famous actor.
Lawrence Olivier .
One of Michael’s first performances at the National Theatre was Shakespeare’s play Much Ado About Nothing, directed by Franco Zeferelli. From this began a long creative union of York and the brilliant Italian director: Michael played contrasting roles in many of his paintings - from Tybald in the film.
"Romeo and Juliet" before John the Baptist in the film
"Jesus of Nazareth" .
In the seventies, York made a very different statement in the film Cabaret (directed by Bob Foss), where he played the naive Englishman Brian Roberts, whose character was transformed under the influence of a bright and explosive friend, a chansonette from the Berlin cabaret (Lisa Minnelli). Michael tried on D'Artagnan's cloak, playing in the paintings of Richard Lester "Three Musketeers" (1974) and "Four Musketeers" (1975), visited the image of a policeman in the science fiction film "Loghan's Escape".
Continuing to work actively, in the eighties and second half of the 90s, Michael York took part in several successful projects: the film “Master Balantre”, the thriller “Sword of Gideon”, “Austin Powers: a man-legend”. The famous actor still plays in the theater, has released several author’s books (one of them is The Wandering Actor). Mile is happy in his personal life: for many years he has been married to Patricia McCallum (York), and his adopted son, Rick McCallum, has achieved great success as a film producer. /
