Famous director Philip Kaufman was born in Chicago, where he graduated first from the University of Chicago, and then from Harvard Law School. At first, he only wrote scripts, but this activity won him the prize of the Cannes Festival in 1965. In 1975, he was supposed to direct the film on his own script, but at the very last moment the studio replaced him with Clint Eastwood, so Kaufman had to wait another two years before the directorial debut.
