After high school, Ed changed jobs. He had to work as a bartender, a salesman, and a steelmaker. While studying at Youngstown State University, O’Neill studied theatre.
At one time, the young man began to think about a sports career. He was very fond of American football and repeatedly played for teams at Ohio State University and Youngstown University. However, the desire for acting was stronger. From time to time, Ed began to go to auditions, as well as take part in performances of the local theater.
In 1977, he moved to New York City, finally deciding to become an actor. Two years of part-time work in New York theaters did not give much results, but in 1979 everything turned in life, he finally got the main role in the Broadway musical Knockout. He was noticed, appreciated.
In 1980, the actor was remembered on the screen. In the movie “The Searcher” he played with the legendary Al Pacino. Then followed one after another work in the films “Dogs of War”, “Miami Police: Vice Division”, “Disorganized Crime”,
"Sister brothers, rivals" "Little Giants", "The Tenth Kingdom", "Happy Numbers", "No Man's Child", "American Family".
Especially popular made the actor the series “Married ... with children”, in which he starred for ten years and which was 8 times nominated for the “Emmy” and 7 times for the “Golden globe”.
