The future filmmaker was born in 1939 on October 5. He received the diploma of the operator in 1970, graduating from VGIK, where he studied with the outstanding Soviet master of cinema, director and cameraman Boris Bolchek. Even while studying at the university, he began to try his hand at cinema, the first notable work - a short film "Nastasya and Fomka" - was released in 1968.
Created in 1971, the drama “The Soldier Came from the Front” was not just a debut for Karavayev in a big movie – the film, which received so much attention from the authorities and was well received by the audience, became a kind of a trip to life for the novice operator. In the future, he worked on the creation of several dozen more paintings, including “Fantasies of Vesnukhin”, “Battalions ask for fire”, “Shukshi stories”, “Twice born”.
