Jay Roach was born in 1957 in Albuquerque (New Mexico, USA). Graduated from Stanford University, he received a master’s degree in filmmaking from the University of Southern California, where his short film was awarded a prize for student work. In 1986, Jay Roach made his debut in the film industry, becoming the operator of the film Odyssey. Then he began working in television, was a co-producer and the second director of the fantastic television movie “The Lifeboat” (1993), based on the picture of Hitchcock. Roach co-produced the television series Space Rangers (1993). In 1994, he acted as the scriptwriter and one of the producers of the action movie "Gone With the Explosion". Only in 1997, Jay Roach got the opportunity for directing, putting the comedy film “Austin Powers: Man Legend”, with Mike Myers in the title role. The film, which had a modest budget of $17 million, was surprisingly successful at the box office. The second film about the adventures of Austin Powers, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Seduced Me, released in 1999 almost simultaneously with the long-awaited first part of Star Wars, grossed $ 54 million. However, Roach's film The Secret of Alaska, released in the same year, was less successful, passing in theaters almost unnoticed. In the comedy Meet the Parents (2000), the main roles were played by Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller. In 2002, the director again turned to the hero, who brought him wide fame, - Austin Powers: Goldmember was released.
