In 1981, he made the film Pichot: The Law of the Weakest about abandoned Brazilian children. Fernando Ramos, who was 10 years old during filming in 1981 (his career ended tragically: he was killed by police in 1987), takes place in the suburbs of Sao Paulo. The film was a great international success and received many prizes. It was voted Best Foreign Film by the Los Angeles and New York Critics Associations (1981). In the late 80s, "Pishot" was named by American Film magazine as one of the best films of the decade.
