AlexanderAlexeyevich Khanzhonko entrepreneur philanthropist writer screenwriter. Born in the family of a retired Cossack officer of an impoverished landowner. He received a brilliant military education, graduating in 1896 from the Junker School in the rank of the undergrowth after which he was accepted into one of the best Cossack regiments. At the age of 20 he was promoted to officer. He participated in the Russo-Japanese War.

In 1906, having founded the first Russian cinematographic enterprise for the sale of foreign films as a representative of the firm of the Pate brothers in 1907, he moved to the production of Russian paintings. In 1911 he organized the joint-stock company "A. Khanzhonkov" and built the first film studio in Russia equipped with the latest technology.
In 1911, the first Russian feature film “Defense of Sevastopol” was released in which Khanzhonkov acted not only as an entrepreneur but also as a co-director and scriptwriter. In the films Khanzhonkova debuted silent film stars Vera Kholodnaya and Ivan Mozhukhin. Khanzhonkov the first among Russian entrepreneurs engaged in the production of popular science documentaries and animated films. After the revolution, he worked as a consultant for Goskino, head of production at Proletkino. He wrote a book of memoirs “The First Years of Russian Cinematography”.
He paid great attention to the creation of chronicles and ethnographic paintings (financed the trip of the operator F. Bremer from Odessa across the Indian Ocean to the Chukchi Peninsula). At Khanzhonkova directors began their creative path: P. Chardynin E. Bauer L. Kuleshov; actors I. Mozhuhin V. Kholodnaya V. Polonsky; artists: B. Zavelev A. Ryllo and the first animator - V. Starevich. Together with A. Khanzhonkovoi (under the general pseudonym Antalek) wrote a number of scenarios of the performances.
Since 1924 - consultant of the production department of Goskino since 1925 - head of production "Proletkino". The author of the memoirs “The First Years of Russian Cinematography” (the book was published in a shortened version in 1937).
