Thomas Hardy is an English writer, poet, novelist and novelist.
Thomas Hardy was born in 1840 in the county of Dorse, in a small village where about 50 people lived. His father worked as a stonecutter. His mother could read but could not write. It was she who decided that her son should receive a good education.
When he was nine years old, he was sent to a parish school. After he finished, he read a lot. At the age of 16, Gardy decided to pursue a career as an architect. He studied at a Dorchester firm and then moved to London, where he was hired.
In London, Thomas began to study painting and languages. In 1867, Gardy returned to Dorchester, where he began writing novels. His first work, Desperate Means, was published in 1871.
Soon Thomas Hardy decided to devote himself entirely to writing. He made a name for himself thanks to the novel Far from the Mad Crowd, published in 1874 in the London magazine Cronhill.
In 1887, Gardy began to write short stories, the plots of which were taken from the life of Dorset. London magazines paid well for the writer’s publications. As a result, the stories were combined into three collections: “Wessex Tales”, “Group of Noble Ladies” and “Little Ironies of Life”.
In 1891, the novel Tess of the D’Urbervilles was published. Now this work is considered a classic of English literature, and at that time it caused conflicting reviews. This novel, as well as the work “Jude Inconspicuous” set many readers against the author.
Since then, Thomas Hardy has written mostly poems and poems about love and village life. The writer became a knight of the Order of Merit and gained great fame. He has always been faithful to his Dorset roots.
Thomas Hardy died in 1928 at the age of 87. His body was buried in Westminster Abbey and his heart in his wife Emma’s grave.
