British actress Gemma Christina Arterton was born in 1986 in Gravesend (Kent, UK). Her father worked as a welder, and her mother was a cleaner.
Her parents sent her to Gravesend Grammar School for Girls in Pilam Road, while she took stage courses. Without finishing school, Gemma entered college, but did not stay there for long. The next school to open its doors was the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Her girlfriend graduated safely in 2007.
Arterton’s acting debut took place in 2007, when she, while still a student, received an invitation to play in the TV-drama S. Poliacoff “The Conquest of Mary”. Six months later, she appeared on the stage of the famous Globe Theatre (London) in Shakespeare’s production of “The fruitless efforts of love”. And a little later she played her first film role (2007 was successful for Gema for debuts) in the comedy film directed by Oliver Parker and Barnaby Thompson “Classmates”.
But the resounding success came to the young actress after she starred in
The Quantum of Mercy As Strawberry Fields. After the first screening of the film, Gemma was invited to become the face of the perfume Bond Girl 007 by Avon. Then there were roles in Guy Ritchie’s crime film Rock and Roller and Richard Curtis’ comedy Rock Wave.
