The first album "Von" was released in 1997 on the label "Smekkleysa". Next year, a collection of remixes is released. At the same time, Kjartan Sveisson, who plays keyboards, joins the team. Having a musical education, he makes the subsequent works of the group more saturated with string and orchestral arrangements. Fame came to "Sigur Rós" in 1999. Critics give positive assessments of the album "Ágætis byrjun", the band begins to play before concerts of popular bands, several songs are included in the soundtrack to the album.

All songs are performed in the language of Vonlenska, which is a nonsense phonetically reminiscent of Icelandic.
In the fourth album "Takk..." traced the greater influence of rock music. The single "Hoppipolla" is widely distributed. In 2006, the musicians recorded a mini-album Sæglopur and conducted a world tour. The last album before the announced sabbatical is called “Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust”.
