Evgeny Viktorovich Plushenko (born November 3, 1982) is a famous Russian figure skater, 2006 Olympic champion, three-time world champion and five-time European in men's singles skating. Honored Master of Sports of Russia.
Biography
Evgeny Plushenko was born in the city of Sunny Khabarovsk Territory. When he was 3, the family moved to Volgograd. At the age of 4 years he began to engage in figure skating, to which he was introduced by his mother, Tatiana Vasilievna. Due to the closure of the Volgograd ice arena in which Evgeny trained, he had to move to St. Petersburg at the age of 11 without his parents, his mother followed a little later. Father Viktor Plushenko, a carpenter in his specialty, and sister Elena remained in Volgograd.
Since 1994 - student of DYUSSH in figure skating in St. Petersburg.
In 1998 he graduated from secondary school No. 91 of the Petrograd district of St. Petersburg.
In 2000 he entered and graduated from St. Petersburg State University of Physical Culture named after P.F. Lesgaft in 2005.
Since 2004 - an external student of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management of the St. Petersburg State Engineering and Economic University.
Plushenko's coach was Alexei Mishin. Convinced of Yevgeny’s talent, he paid for his St. Petersburg apartment for three years, while Yevgeny trained in a group with Alexei Urmanov and Alexei Yagudin. The latter became his longtime rival, especially after his transition to the outstanding coach Tatiana Tarasova. Competition between them ceased after Yagudin left the sport due to injury. Since then, Plushenko’s main rival has been Brian Joubert of France.
Evgeny Plushenko became the first skater in history to show a combination of quadruple toelope-triple toelope-triple rittberger (at the Cup of Russia in 2002), the first among men to perform a bilmann rotation, a cascade of triple axel-oiler-triple flip (2001), etc.
Evgeny is an officer of the Russian army (member of the SKA club). Senior lieutenant.
In March 2007 he was elected a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg on the list of the party “Fair Russia”.
