A wonderful film for lovers of cars, motorsports and racing! On Yandex Reviews left a review of 6 stars a certain "Sadness", called the film critic of the 30th level, quote:
The first 80 minutes of the movie can be watched almost entirely on rewind, you won’t lose much. Competitions and emotions will begin in the last third of the film, whose timing is simple. Or, right, the first line of the review, I’m not kidding, and it says “Machines make a sting.”
I think this quote is enough to give you an impression of this "film critic". And it's really sad if you take these at face value, because it's far from the truth. If you want to get acquainted with the full review and check whether it is taken out of context - this is the most popular review on Yandex.
So, the film starts to hold in suspense from the first two minutes, literally, when we are shown the memories of Carroll Shelby from that very legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans race, where he came first. The role is played by a wonderful actor Matt Damon, one of the leading roles also belongs to him.
Next, another example – in the 16th minute of the film, we are shown a 160-kilometer race in the person of Ken Miles, in the role of no less wonderful actor Christian Bale.
Further, throughout the film, we are shown meaningful, intense dialogue, including the conflict between Henry Ford II and the head of Ferrari. Machine development is beginning. The car that began the tandem of Ford Motor Company and Shelby American Inc. Alas, this is not disclosed in the film, but thanks to them, one of the best cars in my opinion appeared in the world of cars - the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.
I will not disclose the details of the film, see for yourself if I was able to interest you. Of the more than 500 films I’ve seen, this is one of my favorites. And actors Matt Damon and Christian Bale in the lead roles - this is not the main feature of the film (according to Sadness, again), but only an excellent addition to it.
! It could be a spoiler!
The only reason why 9, not 10, is the ending, there was a little bit not reached, not pressed, so to speak. In fact, Ken Miles (an existing racer, because the film is based almost entirely on real events) did die, and it happened in an accident during tests to improve the legendary Ford GT40. The film didn't show it, it just put the fact that Ken Miles was dead.
From all my acquaintances, friends, critics, whom I read and watch, I heard only the most positive reviews about this picture. I am quite far from the automotive theme, so, despite the recommendations for viewing, for a very long time postponed acquaintance with this film.
At first glance and according to the brief description of the film, it seems that we have a sports drama that describes an interesting story from life based on real events, the history of the confrontation between two giants of automotive production, the history of the fates of famous riders and designers. And, of course, it is, too. But I think the story is even wider.
Including this story is about the collaboration and struggle of people with burning eyes and dreams and corporate regulars, for whom short-term benefits are often much more important than progress and long-term prospects. This is a struggle between the innovators who are driving technology forward and the businessmen who are trying to defend their entrepreneurial game, which in turn often forces them to put a stick in the wheel.
The film is, of course, amazing. Absolutely deserved Oscar for editing. Of course, the shooting of the races was done very well. To see such a picture is a pleasure. But, the whole film is somehow rich and tasty. It's very nice to watch the picture.
No less pleasant to watch the acting of the main duo performed by Christian Bale and Matt Damon. They show very high professionalism. Their characters develop, play out emotions that you really believe.
This is a very decent tape, which, as I think, is suitable for viewing in any company, as they say. And alone, and in the company, and with the second half, and even a family with children. It’s a really good story that real professionals put on the screen.
Sometimes it's really fun to watch movies without knowing anything about them other than the title. It turned out that here Christian Bale is not playing Henry Ford, and Damon is not some Ferrari, and the film is completely different. Well, he certainly didn't get any worse.
I am not a big fan of typewriters, and biographical tapes are of little interest to me, but only for the sake of caste I wanted to get acquainted with this tape. And I liked the movie.
The confrontation between Ford and Ferrari in pursuit of the title of the best automaker that won the race, in the narrative is generally purely nominal. In fact, the entire film is a piece of the lives of Ken Miles and Carroll Shelby, a racing driver and mechanic and a former racer and car designer respectively. This duo is at the center of the story, each facing their own, and sometimes common problems, on the way to the goal set by their respected employer, Henry Ford II.
It is worth noting that the plot blanket is pulled by the character of Christian Bale. We learn more about him, his family, and his life than anyone else. Even Shelby, with whom the story actually begins, with the appearance of Ken Miles, fades into the background, revealing for the most part exclusively from a professional point of view. Maybe that’s why you can’t say much about Matt Damon’s game here.
Anyway, the narrative part is really fascinating, because first of all it is a story about a person. So if you, like me, are indifferent to the hardware on wheels, you can safely include the film, because it is not about that.
Overall, Ford v Ferrari is an interesting movie about interesting people. For a change, it's nice to see something without explosions and shootings.
An emotional racing drama that captivates not only motorsport fans, but also attracts anyone. This film tells about the competition between two legendary automakers and the overcoming of obstacles in the struggle for dominance on the racetrack.
One of the main strengths is how strange the cast is. Matt Damon and Christian Bale perform superbly as Cann Miles and Carroll Shelby respectively. Their charisma helps to create convincing and deep characters for which he easily empathizes.
The film's script develops a story, offering a journey into the golden age of motorsport and telling about the dream and ambitions that led Ford to confront Ferrari. Every racing scene is saturated with adrenaline and tension, making you relive every minute of the competition. The film is not only about racing, but also about people, their dreams and human values.
This movie is really about the automotive world. Excellent cinematography and excellent work convey the speed and atmosphere of the race track, as well as perfectly display the time and place of action.
The directorial approach in the film is also admired. James Mangold managed to bring to the screen the energy and epic scale of racing, creating stunning scenes. The speed and dynamics of the racing events are perfectly conveyed.
In general, if you are a lover of the auto world – this film is a real find for you.
9 out of 10
For starters, it is worth mentioning that the film takes as a basis the real story of the confrontation between the two car companies, in particular, at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where their drivers stand each other and almost everything begins to depend on the car. Surprisingly, the creators took the story not so much about the race as about the friendship of Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles, and the race itself acts more as a field for strengthening their cooperation. And the duo of Matt Damon and Christian Bale in the film is not inferior to the Pitt-DiCaprio tandem from Once Upon a Time. Hollywood, released a few months earlier.
The viewer clearly sees the stories of the heroes and understands why winning the race is important for each of them. For Ken, this is a chance to prove to himself that he is capable of it and an opportunity not to disappoint his loving wife and son, who are always ready to support him. For Carroll, the opportunity to return to motorsport and create the best and fastest car after leaving the role of a driver for health reasons, and for Henry Ford II to prove to himself and everyone that he deserves to bear his name, because the representatives of Ferrari, deeply hurt him, saying: “You are only Henry Ford II, you will never be Henry Ford.”
From the technical side, you can not dig into the film, everything is done at the highest level. The races are filmed fascinating and exciting, for 2.5 hours you never get tired of watching them, the feeling that you yourself participated in them. In explaining the principles of the car and plans for the next race, you do not get lost, understanding what should work where and how. Among the actors there are also no questions, the main characters are spelled out well, because the viewer is given both a backstory and an afterword following the finale, and the beautiful Matt Damon and Christian Bale unequivocally strengthen the already written images and, looking at them, involuntarily rejoice, they turned out to be such great friends. There is also Katrina Balfe, who played Ken’s wife (and later her mother in Belfast, which I already loved), who stands out for her husband and, like her son, is sick and worried for him, believing in his victory.
As a result, it turned out to be a great film, telling not so much about the confrontation of corporations as about the friendship of two such seemingly different people, but equally strongly believe and love what they do. Watching beautifully staged races is interesting, and the plot outside helps to get to know the characters even deeper.
The non-recognition of talent by a society that thinks only about its needs.
The main idea of the film is that having a goal, willpower, endurance and the ability to cooperate, you can achieve great results, and most importantly, achieve this goal. The film encourages the viewer to be purposeful, always find a way out of difficult situations, and then everything will work out. The authors want to show that people look at the approval of society, focusing only on its reaction, they do not care about the talent and abilities of a person if he is not able to meet the needs of others. The film shows that it is not necessary to have a prestigious image and reputation to become the best, achieve a goal, fulfill a dream. After watching a movie, you realize how important it is to value talented people.
The good parts of the movie.
I think this movie has more advantages than disadvantages. The film looks in one breath, and interest does not disappear throughout the film. The plot is smooth, without water and unnecessary scenes, all in business. In the film there are scenes with jokes, there are not much of them, which does not overload the film and makes it pleasant to watch. The film is instructive, it contains wise and correct quotes that should be kept in mind, which will be useful in life. Throughout the film, they try to convey to the viewer that no matter how heavy your character is, no matter what image you have, you can always succeed if you make efforts. Each actor was able to perfectly convey all the emotions of the characters, their joy, experiences, anger, bewilderment. They showed the rivalry with just a couple of looks. Christian Bale and Josh Lucas were especially pleased. Christian again thoroughly approached the role and lost 18 kg, he was able to convey the heavy character and simultaneous confidence in action and determination. Well, the character of Josh Lucas annoyed throughout the film that he tried to prevent the main characters from achieving their goal. This shows his acting skills and how he got used to the image.
The bad side of the movie.
Of the bad parts, I would like to point out one thing. Ken Miles came a long way, throughout the film he experienced a lot of setbacks, victories, joys, he won a Ferrari in the race at Le Mans, and died from a normal test of the car. I believe that his death was not solved, devoted to this very small part of the film, did not show the experiences of friends and family.

James Mangold presented to the world a fascinating film covering extremely interesting events of the 60s of the last century in the world of motorsport and mega-moguls of the automotive industry.
Ford is a super-successful company for the production of affordable cars, once (in the first half of the twentieth century) turned the world upside down, largely thanks to its creator - the space-talented Father of Entrepreneurship Henry Ford. Ferrari is the leader of the sporting segment of the four-wheel business, which has undivided power in most of the world’s racing competitions. Ford wants to enter the market with its own sports car and compete with the Italians. Will the Americans succeed in a new business, or will there be no avoiding shame? .
This informative picture has an excellent cast, headed by an amazingly unusual duet of Matt Damon and Christian Bale, a clearly calibrated narrative movement and a friendly and competitive atmosphere. The director of the tape probably presented the viewer with his best work (although fans of Logan will not agree with this assumption), qualitatively recreating the events of the past and illustrating a very extraordinary story that truly captivates the audience’s attention, regardless of whether a person is a motorsport lover and an expert in the history of the automotive industry or just an ordinary connoisseur of good cinema.
Thus, this film vividly, warmly and benevolently depicts the value of friendship, praises self-belief and encourages unlimited immersion in the personal professional field, whatever it takes.
It is a sad story that in the struggle of man and corporations, corporations always win.
For an epic in the picture there is not enough scale, for a genuine drama - the sharpness of the confrontation. The villain there is some office rat who petty harasses the main character for once said a sharp word. While the conflict stated already in the title, quietly smoldering somewhere in the background, it was worth bringing to the forefront and exacerbate to the maximum.
Matt Damon is Matt Damon - his acting skills never fail. Christian Bale is very good - but if the writer had tried better, then the space for applying his wonderful acting qualities would be painful.
The atmosphere of the 1960s is very beautiful and correct, truly fascinating. There's no drama in the movie. There is nothing that captures the viewer.
The story told in the film is very popular in the circles of some motorists. All events, which are quite unusual for Hollywood, are conveyed quite accurately. Naturally, some moments are slightly embellished, but this does not greatly affect the narrative.
On the merits of cinema
1) If you expect to see a sports drama, then this movie is for you. The classic scheme of character development, plot development and build-up of heat closer to the final.
2) The main advantage of the film is an excellent cast. Christina Bale, as always, is on top. Matt Damon is not inferior to him at all.
(3) Everything about racing and cars is done at a high level of study and shooting. As in any good sports drama, cinematography plays a very big role.
On his shortcomings
1) Despite all the charisma of the characters and all the charm of their dialogue, I did not have enough to reveal the characters.
2) In the classical scheme of sports drama lies both the main plus and minus of cinema. It is unlikely that the plot twists will surprise you if you have already seen a movie of this genre.
It is a film that shows that money can buy everything: dreams, goals, people, their work and their lives. Henry Ford II was so excited by the idea of humiliating the “pasta” from Ferrari that he bought the most talented mechanics and racers – movie heroes, used them and left them where they were picked up. Here it is perfectly shown how the interests of the exploiter and the exploited temporarily intersect, how projects are created and destroyed, how “all-knowing” managers – the layer between the exploiter and the exploited – interfere in the creative process in order to curry favor and receive their handout from the master.
This movie has some rotten aftertaste, either because of injustice towards the characters, or because of a bad Russian translation, in which bright images and jokes were lost, or because of the lack of a big main idea.
In general, the film is necessary and shot well, the races are driven, the actors are beautiful, the feeling of danger is constantly felt by the viewer, but somehow there is no satisfaction from watching.
I want to start by saying that if you don’t like movies about races or cars, don’t be in a hurry to dismiss it. James Mangold (Logan, Train to Yuma) managed to make an absolutely genre picture at the highest level, hence the enthusiastic ratings, but let’s deal with it in more detail.
If you are passionate about racing, you know that there is a 24-hour race at Le Mans in France, which is held every year. Well, in 1966, the company "Ford" participates in these races and wins overtaking the concern "Ferrari", which won more than one year in a row, that's the story we are told how this American company achieved. This topic is very patriotic and if it was done by some Roland Emmerich without the American flag against the background of the car in the final we would not do, but Manglod presented it from a completely different side. The film tells not about the confrontation between the drivers from Ford and Ferrari, but about hired people who embody the desire of Henry Ford II (Tracy Letts) to create a new car in order to overtake Ferrari, here the story of two people begins. This is not an easy thing to deal with a retired racer and now the owner of a car store – Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and a racer and Britain Ken Miles (Christian Bale) and basically these two people are making this film. Watching Bale with a tense face sitting behind the wheel of a racing car, while Damon in a cowboy hat and gum in his teeth throws nuts into the box of Ferrari is pure pleasure. We get two people with a high sense of self-worth, who constantly have to transcend themselves, because of the desires of people from above who want a miracle.
For all the template of the film, it is made very noble and on a high level. Mangold managed to achieve absolute versatility in this film, he made it for everyone. If you like quality products, then Ford vs Ferrari is for you.
Cars in our world have long become something everyday, natural, as the passage of time itself – just a means of transportation. But this does not negate the fact that cars serve as an indicator of well-being and a synonym for freedom. Cars, like any other thing, are mostly ordinary, brands compete with utilitarian characteristics, but the names and image of cars are not given at all by sedans for a family trip to the supermarket. It’s a bit like in the fashion world: the whole world will dress in middle-class clothes, but the trend is set by the world of haute couture and luxury brands, perhaps not designed for everyday wear. In the fashion world there are shows, and in the car world there are races. Possession of a sports supercar becomes an indicator of a special status, and the presence in the model line of such a car is quite capable of improving the opinion of potential buyers about the brand as a whole. Therefore, racing, being an obvious exclusive, also becomes a kind of advertising campaign, and, therefore, to some extent, can be important for the brand of cars of any segment.
So, the story of the confrontation between Ford and Ferrari begins with just a desire to improve the image of a large company that produces cars in the affordable segment, but continues for personal reasons. Ford and Ferrari as brands are opposites in themselves: mass market and exclusive, conveyor production and manual assembly. However, taking a step towards exclusive, Ford as a company has no choice but to play by the same rules. The approach shown in the film is quintessentially exclusive to an even greater extent than Ferrari, since the creation of the Ford racing car is not just a mass work, but the work of literally two people. This is no longer just a machine, it is a creation and a work of art, whose behavior is thought out in all circumstances. It is curious that the machine created, as if born in agony, is absolutely obedient to only one pilot, which makes it not just impossible to be the only one, but completely unique.
Although the stated goal is to win the race, the real desire of the heroes I would call the desire for perfection itself. Winning can be due to a number of factors, and the car is just one of them. It is always a lottery, because you never know what the weather will be, whether rivals will get into an accident, whether there will be obstacles. There are many uncertainties, and by creating the best performance car, you can only reduce some of them. Therefore, the race here is a good test for the car itself, demonstrating and testing its capabilities in real conditions, but the goal is it as a creation and created perfection. The desire of the two main characters is precisely in this – in order to realize their ideal, so the final turn seems to them and not too upset, because the goal in relation to the car is somehow achieved.
It should be noted that only true fans can shake the world – people who have found their calling. So, both of our heroes are quite ready to stake everything for the sake of the desired perfection and victory, they create the car as their own personal creation, and they are able to achieve what they want, as long as no one interferes with them: neither too knowledgeable colleagues nor even family. Therefore, the family does not interfere with one of the heroes, the second one simply does not have it - nothing prevents concentration and work, because Ford is in their face confronting Ferrari, and not in the face of someone else. The importance of a unique personality is also emphasized by the finale with a brief historical background, and here again an analogy arises with fashion houses, where the brand’s handwriting is equal to the handwriting of its chief designer, and its change can destroy everything.
Although the main actors create rather curious images, the film is not about people, but about their work and their path. Great attention is paid to the creation of the car, every detail and every detail. Everything human and personal is manifested when it comes to the main topic. Thus, Shelby shows himself as a brilliant diplomat when it is necessary to protect his work, and Miles’ relationship with his family is shown exclusively in the context of his work. Even the friendship of the two revolves around cars, Ford and the race. The film is completely devoid of all the side effects, not related to the central theme, the disclosure of characters is built only around it, and this approach can be called one-sided. But this film is not about people as such, it is about creating perfection, it is about a certain path, about a specific story where history itself is more important than its creators. With this in mind, a certain minority of the characters is quite forgivable.
This film is quite fascinating, despite the considerable timekeeping, although there is no special action in it, except for the race itself. There is no overcoming in the traditional sense of the word, but there are some insanely interesting dialogues that amaze with the techniques of diplomacy and the ability to choose words by some of the heroes. The film is not so much about its title. Although we are talking about confrontation, the main thing is not it, but the search for an ideal and its creation. Confrontation becomes the catalyst for this work, but not the goal.
Movies are not about racing, but about people who lived their dreams and loved their job.
How much I love sports autobiographical films, dramas based on real events, especially if the film is directed by your favorite actor, in this case is Christian Bale, and given the fact that he had his birthday on January 30, I decided to reconsider a wonderful film based on a real story, 'Ford v. Ferrari'
Films based on real events are always interesting to me because you can more than plunge into history and learn a lot of interesting facts, there is also a chance to compare historical facts and how reliably the film was shot.
The film, and as the title of the film says, tells the confrontation between two car companies ' Ford' and ' Ferrari'.
Henry Ford II (played by Tracy Letts) - the owner of the company ' Ford Motors' and the grandson of the legendary Henry Ford, decided that he and his company need to change their branding and focus on fashionable fast sports cars and thus knock out of the game almost bankrupt Enzo Ferrari (played by Remo Girone), but for this they need the best designers, best designers and racing drivers. And the task was assigned to Vice President 'Ford' Lee Iacocca, played by John Bernthal.
Christina Bale plays World War II veteran and professional racer Ken Miles, who opened his own workshop, is married and has a son, but things are not going well.
Carroll Shelby (played by Matt Damon) is also a former racing driver and a famous auto designer and designer, his name is quite well known and popular. Here came the representatives 'Ford' in order to enlist his team and build the fastest car.
Immediately note the acting of Christian Bale, who for this role once again lost a considerable amount of kg (according to him, he lost 30 kg), I was always amazed by his dedication and preparation for each role, so to torture his body then losing weight, then gaining weight. His body language, facial expressions, accent, mannerisms and complete and truthful character transmission so strongly reflect his real Ken Miles. All this together has made and still makes Christina Bale one of the best actors of our time.
Matt Damon was Matt Damon, not to say that he played badly, no, he played well, but his game did not have any remarkable and memorable moments, I will say that Matt played at his consistently good level, but together with Christian Bale they created a good screen duet.
I’m not a big expert in the automotive environment, so there’s a lot I can’t say, just to say that both racing cars and racing impressed me, by analogy with the film ' Race' 2013, so the visual component was performed at a high level.
'The best sports films are not so much about sports as about individuals and people living their dreams and aspirations to make this world a better place.'
Unlike many racing-oriented films, this one is based on a true story, and fact-based dramas tend to be taken more seriously. This is a kind of general biographical film between legendary sports car designer Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and racing driver Ken Miles (Christian Bale). The film focuses on their efforts to beat Ferrari at Le Mans.
The conflict mentioned in the title is just a distraction. The real struggle is between the managers and bureaucrats of the Ford Motor Company and the individualists whose work rolls out onto the track with the Ford logo.
The driving force of this story, if you will, is the loving but sometimes conflicting relationship between Shelby and Miles, brilliantly portrayed by Damon and Bale in a manner that, in my opinion, is more entertaining and engaging than the dynamic duo of DiCaprio and Pitt in 'Once . . . in Hollywood'. Damon and Bale have different styles of play, but both come to the same thing: create a character who faces frustration in his quest for victory.
Also impressive is the performance of Miles' wife Molly (Caitriona Balfe) and son Peter (Noah Upe), who both provide much of the sentimental emotion present in the film. The particular scene where Ken explains to Peter exactly what he does on each individual race lap is as good as acting.
Shelby must come to terms with the frustration of having to give up his racing career due to heart problems, and building a winning team at Le Mans is his way of proving to himself that he is still a winner. Miles is desperate not to disappoint himself because, unlike Shelby, he never had a chance to win the big race. This is due to his abrasive personality, despite his amazing talent on the racetrack. In addition, Miles desperately does not want to disappoint his wife and son, who are fervently supportive of him in everything. Both characters have their own obstacles in finding a way out of frustration, with Shelby dealing with suits at Ford and Miles dealing with car issues in the race. Their individual struggles intersect in a mutual desire to win at Le Mans, resulting in a brotherhood and mutual love for each other that seems genuine and deserved.
Henry Ford II, played by the very spectacular Tracy Letts, reveals in a quick but touching scene why he wants to win at Le Mans. Ford's character shows how much he doesn't want to disappoint his family legacy. In fact, it all started with an insult from Ferrari, stating: ' You are only Henry Ford II, you will never be Henry Ford.'
Cars represent a person’s desire to pursue a dream. Whether it’s designing the fastest car or driving the fastest car. And despite all the obstacles that can stand in the way of a person, the greatest of them is always himself. But with the persistence and help of others, this obstacle can also be overcome. Ford versus Ferrari manages to penetrate the essence of this message with deceptive ease and absolute confidence. The film's absolutely gorgeous cinematography and directing capture some of the most amazing car episodes ever shown on the big screen. The surprising but believable behind-the-scenes fact is that James Mangold and the actors are not car-obsessed at all, but simply did their best to tell the story of the characters. That’s why the film is so good because they realized that the car supports the story, not the other way around.
Overall, this is a spectacular film precisely because it can impress viewers in a variety of ways. Whether it’s action, emotion, the true story or the underlying themes, most viewers will find something interesting here. Even if you don't have any prior knowledge of racing.
- He's pressing too hard, it's not according to plan. - Change of plans. -
Before we begin laudatory odes to the dramatic biopic on the theme of sports 'Ford vs Ferrari' I would like to say a little about its director. James Mangold can be considered undeservedly overlooked, and yet he is one of the most powerful directors, who, perhaps, not so often pleases us with new works, but the tapes produced under his leadership, deserved both audience and critical sympathy. The first experience was the film ' Heavy' (1995), which was not particularly popular, but we blame it on muscle building, but then Mangold pulled out, it seemed, a lucky ticket when he was invited to shoot the detective ' Police ' with a brilliant cast. But there was no unity, hopes were not fulfilled. But then went some victories: psychological drama ' Interrupted life' (1999), fantasy romcom 'Kate and Leo' (2001), cool thriller puzzle 'Identification' (2003), musical-dramatic biopic ' Cross the line' (2005), western 'Train to Yuma' (2007), comedy action 'Knight of the Day' (2010), screen adaptation of comics ''(2017), screenplay ''''

In general, James Mangold is a versatile and very talented director, and he especially succeeds in dramas, and even more especially biographical dramas, because the first film where Mangold was noted as a cinematographer was the story about the relationship between musicians Johnny Cash and June Carter. And now, almost fifteen years later, Mangold for the first time received a long-awaited and deserved nomination for ' Oscar' in the category ' Best Director' for his work with the film ' Ford vs Ferrari' which turned out to be both fascinating and tragic at the same time. Acting fusion from Matt Damon and Christian Bale made the picture even more spectacular and emotional. And sports camera passages, where they were helped a little by visual special effects, will be a balm for the soul of fans of thrills received on the tracks, where the best racers, designers and, of course, cars compete. After all, the same advertised tape 'Need for Speed: Thirst for Speed' (2014) did not become a delight to fans, and one 'Race' (2013) from Ron Howard will not be fed. Let’s hope that 'Ford vs Ferrari' will give a new impetus to the development of the genre.
So what have we got in this picture? I have to give credit to the writers right away. The project from brothers Jez and John-Henry Butterworth lay on the shelf for a long time, while the studios doubted to let it into production. During this time, the script acquired strong storylines, the characters were written deeply and clearly, and the drama, along with excitement and heat, literally ionize the atmosphere. In general, American filmmakers are very fond of heroic sports achievements, such tapes will gather a decent number and many of them deservedly well received by the audience. Therefore, it is quite difficult to stand out from them, but the history of the relationship between the main characters - Ken Miles (Christian Bale) and Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) - is so deep and detailed that you can admire it. The main thing is that this moment is not hidden by the entertainment and power of the scenes with auto racing (where, by the way, you gradually begin to worry and ' sick & #39; for Miles). Although the dramaturgy of relationships and action are closely related and subtly complement each other, and this is a very important condition in the production of sports biopics.
Of course, we should also talk about acting. By the way, it is a pity that neither Christian Bale nor Matt Damon received nominations for ' Oscar' for their roles, but they embodied their characters thoroughly. In general, Christian Bale is known for his immersion in images according to the Stanislavsky system, apparently, critics really wanted to see something even cooler and more extraordinary, but Bale chose the demonstration of the image as every viewer will accept it - a real racer and engineer, ready to sacrifice for the sake of victory, ready to work to exhaustion. And one of the climax scenes at the finish of the auto race & #39; 24 hours of Le Mans & #39; makes you shudder with injustice, but how steadfastly it endured Ken Miles so magnificently played by Bale. Matt Damon reminded of himself in the best traditions after several not the most successful paintings. He is back on the saddle, he attracts attention well, and his prudence (though at times it gave way to expression) deserves respect for Carroll Shelby. And their amusing brawl was generally cheerful and fervent. And I would like to note the stylish game Kaitriona Balfe, who played the wife of Miles, - that's where the hope and support, that's where the wife and best friend.
In general, the laudatory odes to the sports-dramatic biopic ' Ford vs Ferrari' are coming to an end, it remains only to draw a line and say that this film is strong on all sides - in directing, script, entertainment and acting. Two and a half hours of timekeeping fly almost imperceptibly. It’s also inconspicuous how you, as a spectator, are suddenly obsessed with the story of two major automakers clashing on the challenging and dangerous roads of the world’s oldest auto race. Watch 'Ford vs Ferrari' worth not only fans of cars and dramatic biopics, everyone else will also enjoy a cool, clearly soldered movie.

P.S.: James Mangold is currently the main director of the fifth part of the cult adventure saga ' Indiana Jones' I really wish that hopes were justified, because the fourth part was to put it mildly unconvincing.
Well, let's face it, the movie is a bit boring. It's tight. It's nowhere else. It could have been shortened for an hour, and it would have been even better.
I hope the producers didn’t skimp on Christian Bale’s fee because he’s the only one who’s done 100 in this movie. I would say that all the characters except his character (Miles) were either boring or passable.
Why is that a name? Well, yeah, like, the focus is on the competition between Ford and Ferrari, but the film was enough to call 'Ford' and it would be fairer. Because there were McLarens, not just Ferraris. It could have been called 'Ford and McLaren'. Is there no copyright agreement?
I didn’t understand why my own boss (Leo or whatever, I didn’t even remember his name, he was fat) tried to sabotage Miles. Knowing he was the only good rider, he was constantly trying to get him out of racing. He was, like, the head of the race project - he had to pick the best of the best! That's crazy. His car wins and he's angry. Logic is zero.
Why is the legendary CEO Lee Iacocca, about whom almost legends make up, remembered only as ' sponge bow, browsing house'? This is a full paragraph!
Well, Matt Damon was for the background. He could have been replaced by any other actor and nothing would have changed. He played very badly.
Like I said, the only fighter on this show is Miles and his car. I looked in the original, and you need to understand that the color in the translation disappeared completely. Miles spoke with a characteristic Irish accent, constantly sang some Irish folk songs, spoke foul words, and adjusted his car as if it was a horse that understood him. And this all created such a flavor that, probably, I still will not regret watching this film.
You look and you understand – no, it wasn’t the Americans who won (or didn’t win, didn’t understand what happened with the points in the main race for the trouble, and it doesn’t matter). No, it's an Irishman who just flew forward and did what he wanted and saw fit and dragged the whole project through with his naked enthusiasm. He didn’t compete with Ferrari or McLaren, he didn’t care about them at all. He just flew forward and burned his business.
There is usually something to add to the review. As far as the atmosphere is concerned, it is weak. I don't even know what the '50s, '60s are like. Just some sort of average 'retro'.
The plot: the old Ford II played the ego, because the Italians did not sell him their Ferrari, and he decided to show them that America is great country. So I decided to make my coolest racing car and beat them in the race. He trusted the same Iacocca to gather the guys for the project. However, then the project was intercepted by this nasty Leo, who always sabotaged everything, but at the same time wanted to sit in a trump post. In general, the whole film was building a good car and preparing for the main race. Then the race ran for half an hour. And then for another 10 minutes at the end, they chewed snot. All about the plot. People wrote something about male friendship in the comments. Well, that's a friendship, you weak one. Rather, the guys agreed on the goals for a while and they did not mind working together.
I'll add more about the character of Matt Damon (Shelby). Ford has a Ford Shelby racing car. And it's clear from the plot that he's a very cool rider in the past. A car was named after him. But what do we see? Shelby just goes back and forth the whole movie, and kind of cheers up Miles. Although, I think it was Miles who was charging everyone there like a battery. It seemed to me that Matt Damon was a superfluous character at all and did not understand who and why he was playing. I’m talking about it because he spent a lot of time in the movie. Too much, so you can’t miss it.
I do not want to repeat again that ' The West is rotting', 'Hollywood is no longer that' but another ' masterpiece' as if hinting. It turns out that this film also managed to win two Oscars. And, who would doubt, of course, not for the main male role of Christian Bale. I'm not saying that Bale was brilliant. But his character, you know, got into it. It was interesting and vivid. But camera work, sound, scenery, costumes, castes - everything is bland, boring, faded, we have already seen it a hundred times. . .
The plot about the confrontation of the GT40 sports car of the Ford team in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race against the champions of that time Ferrari. It can be divided into two parts - the story of the people behind the creation of the legendary car and the directly realized visual series of the races themselves.
Henry Ford II has a special ambition that his cars will not only be popular, but also the most titled. By that time, things are not going well for the Ferrari team, and the best option would be to buy the team along with all the developments. But thoughtful Italians play their game ', so the deal does not happen, in addition, Enzo Ferrari refusing thereby greatly hurts the pride of Henry Ford II.
Therefore, the management involved in the creation of a new car legendary racing driver and car designer Carroll Shelby, who in turn hired the brave British racer Ken Miles. The tandem between Shelby and Miles led to the fact that the version of the car codenamed GT40 was improved, which was later able to become the winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 4 times.
The dramatic story looks very artificial. First of all, because of a completely unsuccessful casting. The only character that looks a little bit in the frame is Ken Maisle played by Christian Bale. It retains the features of a racer with a complex character, but with elements of professionalism and love for his work. Ford executives are exhibited by caricature villains, and Carroll Shelby in the person of Matt Damon, looks like the man who accidentally walked into the set and everything that happens amuses and delights him. Momentary relationships within the Miles family are created to show the difficult situation Miles found himself in and cause a stingy male tear in the middle and end of the film. Thus, until the final credits, there is a feeling that you are watching the amateur activity of university students who do everything according to the textbook, but have absolutely no experience in understanding the processes occurring in people’s lives.
The scenes with the races were apparently performed by another film crew. There is already a good feeling of opposition not only cars, but also riders. Machines in the frame is the only link that works in a positive way, because the plot allows you to fully immerse yourself in what is happening on the screen and appreciate what is happening on the screen now. The visual component conveys a sense of speed. It is a pity that the race is given very little screen time.
As a result, the authors were unable to show a clear dramatic narrative about the events taking place in preparation for the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, as they were unable to reveal the characters. One of the thoughts of the film is that you have to stick to your single point of view until the very end. While Ken Maisle was improving the car and racing as he saw it, he was the winner. As soon as he followed the lead of the bosses of Ford and decided to become a team player, his legs were quickly wiped over him and Miles lost an important victory for himself. Only two hours of screen time, the director fails to reveal the characters and everything remains at the level of advertising for Ford. At the same time, according to the plan of the producers of the film, the main villains are all the management of Ford, except of course Henry Ford II. We just have to enjoy the scenes where the cars flash and the pilots fight - this is the only real life in the film.

He said 'You're not Henry Ford, You're not Henry Ford II'
I wouldn’t say racing movies are one of my favorite movies. But I like these cars from the '60s. Take even the same workshop from Carroll Shelby, which shows the supercars of those years. The same Daytona Coupe, which accelerated to 305 km / h. There was no VAZ in our country this year. And they already had cars with such a mind-blowing design.
On the other hand, Damon as Shelby didn’t seem very convincing to me. It is said that Enzo Ferrari was a man of rather bad character. And the actor who performed it in this film was very convincing. At the very least, Shelby must be a man of iron character, on whom the piano will fall and the piano will break. And here it is as if not too confident consumption junior researcher, working in a closed research institute at harmful production.
What else did I like? Cars. I seriously doubt that the originals of these cars were used here, probably graphics. But it's cool.
Well, the plot itself was quite predictable based on the title. It is clear that there is a cool Ferrari car, it is clear that Ford Jr. was offended and in anger ordered to build a car that would disgrace Ferrari. And then the kind Ken Miles wins Lorenzo Bandini, and Bandini is shown as such a villain. In reality, he was not a villain. He was a great rider, as a villain he clearly did not look.
It's just a movie though.
What I can say in the end is that I liked the movie. I even watched it twice. I don't rule out doing that later.
